I have been looking for a Quincy compressor until this showed up on Craigslist:

I bought it because my brother has one JUST LIKE IT. Wanted a Quincy 325 or 340 with a 5hp 1750 rpm motor. My brother's compressor is relatively quiet. MUCH quieter than my current 60 gallon "6.5 peak hp" compressor.

Have not powered it up yet. I am building a magnetic starter for it. I am an HVAC guy and have a few parts lying around:

Sizing Thermal Overload

I bought a Square D thermal overload relay on Ebay. Class 9065 "open type" TO1. According to Square D publication

Square D Overload Relays and Thermal Unit Selection

Page 19, "All starter classes... For 1.15 to 1.25 service factor motors use 100% of motor full load current for thermal unit selection." My motor FLA is 24 amps at 230VAC with a service factor of 1.15.
The table on page 22 says to refer to Table 31 for a standard trip thermal unit.
Table 31 lists FLA of 23.4-26.6 to use a B32 thermal unit. Just my luck... the thermal unit i have is a B36 (the next size up). Won't keep me from powering it up this weekend but I need to buy a B32.

. . . one auction site says 25 in model # tells you it's 25 CFM (actually no - - see below).

EDIT: Appears that really is 16 CFM and new model # is 82-358

Paid $475. Came out of a maintenance shop at a local business. Owner told me he bought it used. I think he said he had it for 10 years. Said it was in a light duty environment. He uses a couple of screw compressor for the rest of his facility.

I have not been able to find any literature on-line about the compressor. 25 cfm sounds high to me. I don't think you can get that much air with a 5hp motor. 15 cfm seems more realistic. Does not matter. I did not buy it for the capacity, I wanted "some" more capacity but noise was a bigger factor. The Home Depot 6.5 "peak" hp compressor I have will make your ears ring.

Powering for first time

Rigged up a contractor to energize the compressor. Used a piece of plywood before I mount everything in the electrical enclosure. A video:

Magnetic starter layout

my first pass of laying out the components before mounting in the control box:

I could only find one 240V transformer at the house. It was bad... the primary windings are open. I did have a good furnace transformer, so I used it. The automatic tank drain I have is 120V. I might reconsider and use a 120V transformer too. Going to think about it.

Watched the YouTube and that baby sounds like a workhorse !!
NICE buy at $475 as I'm sure that baby was around $2K new !!

Curious what all functions you'll be getting with magnetic starter ???

You going to have a "Light On" to show when it's running ??

Is the On/Off going to be switch or push button or what ??

The "ON" switch is for a 24vac solenoid to turn compressed air on/off. I salvaged the solenoid from a commercial rooftop HVAC unit.
