twertsy hey big boy you got me in hot water with the wife this week, turns out I used her brand new (just got that day) smart phone and me being curious (remember I **** at the new technology), went to your web-site and down loaded a Kraeuter catalog on her phone.

Don't ask me how to erase it still have not figured out much about it yet, but I am sure someone at the phone store will help me out of the dog house. Still have not figured out the making pictures smaller so I am not able to get them on your web-site.

Wish I was 14 again and had all these new gadgets but alas Abe was still in the white house and I am even more lost today.

Maybe it is me but every time I walk into the stores that sell computer related item I swear those guys are talking Greek and they have a code word/buzz word for look out old geezer alert lets hide.

All, I've been going through all the comprehensive list of tool companies and adding histories and links as I can find them. Many, many updates and obscure companies have been updated and will continue to be updated over the coming weeks. Here is the link.

Brian, can you email me your updated list for incorporation? Thanks!!

I have to alphabetize and organize the additions and will get them to you in short order. There are quite a few of them.
Every time I run that search and poke through the listings I come up with two or three or more new names I've never heard of.

Ok folks, I added a cool new feature to the website. Essentially wherever you are, on any page, you'll see a "Private Notes" block on the right menu. You can keep your own notes as you are browsing the site that only you can see. I've been reminding myself on pages I need to update (for example). As always, thank you and enjoy!

An interesting peculiarity on the Private Notes function.......I was trying to create a view for users to see all the Private Notes they have created in one spot. Looks like it can't be done.......they are "truly private," I can't find the class to even create a query against! Also note that it appears there is no way for you to "manage" (like edit or delete) your private notes. Once you create one, it'll always be there.

Ok folks, I've hit the motherload of trademarks. It's a bit tedious but I'm finding everything, and so many trademarks that I've never even heard of. What's nice about this is that they all list 1st use dates, which helps us determine when terms/designs came into being. Off the top of my head I've updated Snap-On, Williams, Blackhawk, Bonney, Billings, Indestro, Duro, and many more.

Go to Recent Content. You'll see all the pages I've been updating with trademark information. If it's listed there on the first page or two, I've updated trademark info. I even found the RP design for Blackhawk wrenches which I thought were much later.

Well, it's been 2 years since I started this adventure. I must say I truly enjoy reviewing all the "whatzit" and "who made this" posts on the various forums, and then digging in to research it's origin and history. I really enjoy all the research!

According to Google Analytics, ToolArchives gets close to 4,000 visitors per week now. Amazing! We're approaching 1,000 users and I still get multiple requests daily.

It's been fun, but I'd really love to see more questions/comments/recommendations/input from the user community. So, post up your thoughts!

Thanks for all the help and support,

Todd

Hi Todd
I check it out virtually every day. Part I enjoy most is the uploaded old catalogs. I almost always download the latest uploads to view later when I have time to browse and enjoy them.

Thanks for this labor of love.

4 new catalogs posted today, and over the last couple weeks, I've really dug hard into trademarks, documenting hundreds of them for many many tool companies. Remember, you need to have an account and be logged in to view catalogs.

The trademarks are "linked" on the company main pages. So go to Hand Tool Manufacturers, click on the manufacturer you are interested in and the links are on their main page. Please note that if a manufacturer's page has sub-pages, you need to click on the manufacturer's name twice. I have no idea why that's happening but oh well. :dunno:

You can also go to "Recent Content" to see what I've been working on. If you see my name (Todd Werts) next to a company page, it means I've updated it, most likely with Trademark links.

Catalogs uploaded this morning were:

1933 Cornwell; 1962 Indestro, and 1957 and 1959 Wright Tool & Forge. The Wright catalogs are interesting because they include multiple price lists for jobbers, distributers and mechanics.........quite a dispersion between pricing!

Also, please keep checking out Recent Content as one of our resident storytellers / researchers (Lugz) will be adding several new company pages with excellent stories and history in the near future.

Todd- I just went through the Wright Tool catalogs. Those catalogs are incredible.

Thanks for posting, I'll continue to check in regularly and if in my travels I should come across any catalogs that you're missing, I'll pass them along.

twertsy,
Just came across Tool Archives.

It sounds like it's a fantastic website for anyone interested in old tools and such.
I tried to create a new account but was unsuccessful. Have I done something wrong or is there another problem?
Hope you can help me as I'm really looking forward to checking out the catalogs.
Thank you

Good morning Gents,
I have begun the daunting task of going through every patent & trademark report and documenting trademarks. Here are examples of the products I'm focused on: Knives, Axes, Guns, Pistols, Wrenches, Socket Wrenches, Saws, Files/Rasps, Punches/Chisels, Planes, Shovels, Mattocks, Adzes, all metal / wood working machinery, etc. Basically, any and all "shop/barn tools." I am not documenting harvesters, plows, reapers, sewing machines, etc.

I'm done with 1870 through 1880, working my way up through the years.

You can search by manufacturer here: http://toolarchives.com/trademark-applicant-browser

You can search by manufactured good here: http://toolarchives.com/trademark-product-browser

You can search by the marking here: http://toolarchives.com/trademark-marking-browser

I hope you find these both interesting and helpful!! Happy New Year, Todd

Just an update, I'll be through at least 20 years of trademarks as of today, from 1870 through 1890. My plan is to go up to 1950.

Wahoo! Finally made the 20th century. I'm in the middle of the most painful period where some lazy (&^*^) didn't scan the page with the marking. So, double the work since I have to go to the Gazettes and find the actual mark.

Tons and Tons of trademarks documented so far. Please try out the menu links (6) on the trademark menu. Also, I'd like to hear recommendations on other ways to view/search the data. Please note that when searching by product, I am capturing ALL trademarks for products with the ** after them. All other products are captured incidentally.

Here's the link to the main TM Browser, with the 6 alternative search methods in the right menu.
