Latex paint on garage door

It has been a long time since I have been on the forum. I need some help. I am in the process of painting the interior of my garage, using latex paint. When painting a portion of the ceiling, I had the garage door open and some paint dripped on the exterior door. I did not realize it had occurred for several days after. The door is metal and it gets a good deal of direct sun in the morning, so it has hardened pretty well. I have tried some denatured alcohol and some latex paint remover. Nothing seems to work that well and some of the actual garage door paint has rubbed off.

I am looking for any ideas anyone has on what to do to get the latex off.

Thanks.

I can chip off some, but it is very slow going. I thought about taking the hair dryer out there to apply heat, but am worried about harming the paint that is supposed to be there.

Reapply some to fix whatever might get damaged.

I think a hard finger nail or alike plastic scraping tool is the only way to go, chip it off as mentioned...... if it is dried... you can try a heat gun (NOT Hair Dryer) but you'll have to move quick and take it slow so you won't melt the bottom paint... I don't think goof-off or a like works well... they do have paint stripper but most likely it will lift the bottom paint layer as well...

Won't a heat gun do the same damage to the bottom paint? If I end up having to repaint, any suggestions on how to do that?

OP it would be good to know your location.

Maybe it is time to paint the garage door. They usually take a beating from the sun and rain.

Try an ammonia based window cleaner, spray a few times over and let soak and then apply elbow grease. Shouldn’t hurt the coating of the garage door but should eat and soften the latex paint.

I used this to remove paint from some composite deck material. The paint had been there for several months, but came off with little effort or drama.

Denatured alcohol works well. Saturate latex for a few minutes to soften. Scrub with rag soaked in alcohol and flush with water. Used it for years.
