A "What is the best way to do it?" question. I need to attach a 5/8 thick wood board flat against an existing lath and plaster wall. I am thinking about installing adjustable wire shelving (the kind with the vertical metal rails with lots of little slots) into an existing closet that has a lath and plaster backwall. In order to get the rails vertical I need to attach a 5/8 thick board that will act as a spacer at the base of the closet to which the bottom of the rail will be attached. The board will not be taking any major load, but I'd like to secure it tightly against the wall. I am thinking of the spring-loaded metal butterfly bolts, but are there any better choices? Thanks for any advice. J

I would find the studs, I had all kinds of cracking issues when we tried that on our walls. If you get it just right it will work fine, but don't count on it. You need a decent stud finder and a lot of patience.
