Lathe identification

Good morning someone near me told me they have this lathe for sale. They sent me these pictures but I’m hoping someone on here can help me identify what exactly it is. It’s belt driven from a motor and pulleys in the ceiling.

If you can get a good photo of the tag on the gear box it would probably help, even if the brand name isn't there. Brass tag on the right hand side.

As Aaron says the tag on the qc box should have the mfg name, My guess would be Seneca Falls

On a lathe that old, knowing the make and model does you little good, as replacement parts will be non-existent anyway. Assuming you're interested in buying it, you really have to evaluate these old machines on a case by case basis, without regard to manufacturer. Despite the line shaft, it's got some fairly modern features - a compound, a quick change gearbox, a feedshaft that's separate from the leadscrew, and it's got a nice deep bed. Condition of the ways, headstock bearings and price should guide you.

Thanks a lot yes I am considering it had someone send me those pictures but have not been able to actually go look at it yet. I love the idea of having a big old machine that will outlast me but am cautious just because of the age and no idea how it was treated.
