This is a little project I've been meaning to do for some time now. I always hated having to go through my drawer to get to my tooling.

Just a few scrap pieces I had around

Little 90 deg "holders" cut to fit the dove tail slots. I plan on getting another set of 4 in the future so I planned ahead for that

Plan on using the nut off the stud in the top back to mount it directly to lathe

Mounting adapter

Mocked up to make sure it fits and doesn't interfere in operation

I was gonna weld it together but a lack of Argon and experience with thin Aluminum thwarted that plan so I just riveted it together

Mounted

With the tooling

Is there anything holding them in place?

Can they vibrate out and fall into the spinny things?

Looks like they're made to fit the larger end of the dovetail. You'd have to lift them up to get them off.

It is mounted so that you need to reach across the chuck.

That makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Can you say with absolute certainty that you will never reach across a rotating chuck to reach for a tool.

I have mine mounted in a similar fashion at the tail stock end of the lathe so i will never need to reach across the chuck.
