Recently purchased a new to me CR/AT 12" lathe. I'm going through the lathe now, but would like to id the tooling below. Top left look like typical cutting tools plus a Williams boring bar set up, but all others are over my head. I appreciate any input 0237f53759aa6cb88c46094dfa6b011a.jpg4179731562a8e107a04ac2b2e79305d1.jpg

First row, after tooling you have identified: Morse drift keys (2), knurling tool, lantern tool post, mandrel.

Second row: Wrench for tool post, threading tool (I think), Morse taper sleeves (4).

Third row: All appear to be reamers. The first may be a spot-facing tool, though. The welded tool in the middle is a mystery.

Thanks for the input Steinmetz. Any idea why so many reamers is that indicative of any type of particular work?

you need a reamer for just about every size. I've got piles of them. Most of them have only been used once. But hey, the customer needed that hole, he wanted it round, so I couldn't drill it and he paid for the ream.

Be careful. when using a ream in the tail stock!! It will usually cut oversize unless the head and tail are in PERFECT alignment. A float will let you have a better shot of getting a true size.

MSC shows 10,000 plus reamers in their catalog.

http://www.mscdirect.com/browse/?na...headTerm=reamer&typahddsp=Reamers&hdrsrh=true

and that does not include any of the specialized reamers for guns which I suspect that one is that has the long snout on it. Spend a bit of time wandering the above MSC site and you will be amazed at all the cutting tools that you can find for lathe work and others.
