Lathe "what's it worth"

What would be a middle of the road price for this lathe? It's an atlas model TH 42, no milling attachment, works fine but the base has a little grove in it (around 1/64 to 1/32) when you get closer to the chuck, with the homemade table of 1/4" plate and 1/4" angle.

It looks and sounds to be in pretty sorry shape. They weren't much of a lathe to begin with, but any lathe is a whole lot better than using a file!

If only what is in the pictures 4-600. If the change gears are there and another chuck with the ways in good shape then a couple of hundred more.

Depends on your location. Around here in the Northeast, and driving distance to Detroit, I'd agree with AP, about $150-200

Near atlanta maybe $250-300. Up in the Northeast $150-250 without change gears. Nother hundred with them

As is 250-400, around here. 500 if painted grey.

That is real similar to mine. I see them on craiglist for around 400-500 in that condition but they will have all the change gears with them. That one has the timkin bearings which is good. Also you need to make sure the ways are in good shape.

Mine was in similar condition before I restored it. Here is a pic of mine. I have been offered a $1000.00 for mine but I have to much fun with it plus I like the fact that it is a 1937 American made machine from the time when America was America and people was proud of this great country.

Thanks guys! I googled around for a price but they were all over the place as well. I listed it on craigslist for $450 and have alot of what at least seem to NOT be tire kickers so I was just making sure I wasnt underselling it.

Seeing that craigslist is free to advertise you always want to start out high and if you don't get any takers then you lower the price. Better to be too high than be to low to start.
