Lawn mower blade adaptor

I took on a stupid lawn mower repower project.. But I am almost done and just need to get a blade adapter for the new engine. It sounds easy but you pretty much can only buy a blade adaptor by model number of the mower. They will never tell you any critical dimensions. Or enough of them. I would have to go to a supplier and measure up the parts, if they would let you.

I need a 25mm bore with a 3/16" key and about a 1" blade drop. The keys are cast into the entire assembly.

any ideas on how to source one???

Thanks Dustball. Here is my dilemma. They will not tell you the key width or blade drop. Common key widths in this size are 1/4, 3/16. Perhaps even 5/32. Also the blade drop is not provided. The blade drop is the distance from the bottom of the bore to the surface the blade mounts to. I need about 1" . Plus or minus 1/8 or so. I can tell just from the scale of the picture that the blade drop on that particular part is likely about 3/8 to 1/2.

This part gets more of my attention as one that might work.

But again, I do not know the key width on this or any of them.

I have tried to reach out to some sellers on ebay and so far none of them have been willing or able to give me that info. They reply back, what is your model number and that is all they wish to deal with. One guy told me the warehouse is not on site so he can not measure one....etc.

If someone out there has a MTD 748-04082 blade adapter and can measure the key and blade drop and share it. I would be grateful. Thanks

E replacements carries that part number they are pretty good answering inguires on parts and often will relate you critical dimensions when asked.

So if you just not buying the original part knowing it will fit correctly you must have changed the crankshaft from another motor or maybe swapped deck assemblies? :headscrat

That is a problem I sometimes run into on different projects and it is really frustrating. For example if I want a bearing and go to an auto place. First question is what car does it fit. It may be for a mower blade spindle. I know they have them but their web site doesn't allow searching by size. All the real bearing places have more limited hours and are farther away. Autozone has a tool loan program. Needed a puller. Same question - what car is this for. Wasn't for a car. I knew exactly what tool I needed so not much of a problem and they didn't mind that it wasn't for a car.

As was said I think some of the places should be able to answer those questions. Not amazon but a good local shop or some of the on line places. Maybe get on some mower repair forums.

Try looking for a mower model that uses the engine type you are installing. Then look in the parts list for that mower. I'm fortunate in having a local mower parts shop with stuff on the shelf. Are there any similar in your area?

Ugg I had that at a Harley Dealer some years ago for a fuel tank petcock for my bike that was obsoleted. I did all the investigative homework knew which one would fit correctly (and work) but they first refused to sell it me because it wasn't listed for my model.

Eventually I told them it was for one of models the book did list and they sold it to me :lol_hitti

Ken C, that is exactly what I would like to do but I just can not get an engine P/N on the exploded parts lists. A where used search feature would be awesome but does not exist. As far as I can see. The manufacturers are not listing the engine P/N on relevant Lawn Boy parts list I have viewed.

Thanks for your idea.

Try calling these guys:
https://www.jackssmallengines.com/

They have always helped me figure things out. I would bet there is probably only a few different adapters anyway. I think I got the last one I needed at Home Depot.

Thanks Bill, I did speak with Jacks today and they are model number based. They will not work from dimensions.
They could only suggest I take it to a local shop and see if they could match up something.

How about we take a different approach at this and maybe we can help. What are you doing as in what motor are you putting on what mower.

OK how did you x-ref that engine to the models that use this particular blade adapter? When you look on any of the exploded parts diagrams, the engine (Item 14) is not called out on the parts listings.
