Yeah keep in mind what brand new ones look like. They aren't exactly Chef's knives.
try running them the way they come, you wont find any difference.

Brand new lawn mower blades should actually be used as they are. They aren't dull - instead they cut slower and last longer. The edge is sharp enough to roughly last for 25 hours of mowing and is dull enough so that the blade won't get easily damaged by roots and rocks.Apr 28, 2022

^ I would say probably 90% of the blades I've taken off that were sharpened by a previous owner were ground at too sharp an angle - people seem to think that a lawnmower blade should have an edge like a Samurai's katana - actually you want more like a 60-degree angle; edge will stay longer and won't get so beat to hell by little rocks and sticks.

I live on sand. I run the blade until the sand deforms it and then replace. Occassionally I hit them with a file but the sand pretty much deforms them in a season.

60 deg?! A baseball bat might have an easier time chopping up grass

I agree but that's for my grass (fescue). Might be different for southern grasses.

^ yeah... that's all you need here. we don't have "tough" grass here... mostly Kentucky bluegrass mixed with ryegrasses and fescues.
60-degree cut on the blade goes through it like butta.
