The Sears mower finally bit the dust. The majority of my mowing is my Kubota 2660 and 60" mid mount mower. I need a mower for getting around flowers, fences, etc. I'm kind of interested in the electrics as the current gas that is available is killing all the small motors and we are soon to be going to 15% ethanol, which should make things worse. It may be time to go electric just for eliminating the gas hassle. We are in the country in CA and don't worry about how pretty the lawn is and water is short. I just like to keep it down until it dies, which should be another couple weeks and I can put up the mower for the summer. Any comments or recommendations?

You also can get ethanol free gas at most race tracks. Here in CT I get 93 unleaded ethanol free VP gas for $6.50gal which compares to about $7.50qt at most lawn equipment stores.

You can store this gas for a few years and use it to put away all your yard equipment and any fuel gas generators.

Ethanol free gas is available at some traditional gas stations. I'm fortunate to live 6 blocks from one, and use their ethanol fee premium in my motorcycle, ATV's, lawn mower, snow blower and pressure washer. Basically any small engine I own. It's priced $0.20 more than the low grade regular fuel at this station so fortunately for me they aren't charging a huge premium for it. It may be an up-hill battle being that you live in CA, but here is a database that keeps tabs on gas stations that offer ethanol free fuel. You can browse gas stations by state.

Here in Europe you can buy special Chainsaw engine fuel (from Stihl etc.) might also be available in CA at your hardware store selling Chainsaws etc.

I just checked with the station listed for San Diego, they sell the 100 Octane fuel for $8.98 per gallon.
