Hi all

I was given about 30 tonnes of hot mix bitumen.(cold but still workable) I have spread it out at about 4" thick with my tractor bucket but it is not very even. I have been told to spray it with diesel and try rolling it. My other idea was to jack hammer the high spots and try and level it again with the bucket or get a propane torch and try melt it.
Any ideas appreciated.

Cheers

From my very limited knowledge, there is little you can do in winter. You need several hot sunny summer days and a "steam" roller to flatten it out.

Good point Burl. It is summer here now, today was relatively cool and a sprinkle of rain to help. Might try the jack hammer on the big lumps and roll it. I have another truck load off road base due tomorrow, see if it flattens it out a bit too.

Hi again
I spent some time on the drive jack hammering up the high spots and scraping with the tractor bucket and levelling bar and now have something I can live with for now.

cheers for the replies.
