So, I have a 30x44 with R19 walls Attic Trusses with R19 in the floor part and R38 on the 8 foot attic wings. I also have a ridge vent that runs the entire 44 foot length.
All vapor barrier seams were taped, however it seems I forgot to tape the vapor barrier to the ceiling fan box in the dead center of the ceiling and an outlet in the middle about 4 feet from the ceiling fan.
I have the shop heated with in floor heat.
The weather warmed up significantly the past couple days from -20 or so to +40 today.
I noticed the ceiling fan had a slow drip and so did the outlet.
I went into the attic, there is no leak in the roof, where I can access the insulation, it is dry. (this is brand new construction)

My thought is, warm has been escaping up through the unsealed vapor barrier, frosting on the cold side of the ceiling tin, then as it got warmer in the attic, it melted and started leaking.

Does that seem right?

Any thoughts?

Its condensing someplace near there and then draining back out. Once it dries up you should be able to find a way to seal up the openings around/in the boxes. Maybe caulk, putty tape/pads, canned foam.

I’m sure that’s exactly what’s going on,has to make you wonder how much heat you have lost.

You could caulk around the outside of the box and then take a can of the window and door (blue top) foam and blow it thru the openings in the back of the box. They also make foam gaskets for the outlet boxes, usually with the weatherstripping in the big box stores.

Thanks guys, just glad to figure out that it isn't something more serious.
