Leaking cars

I have a car that leaks just enough to be annoying but not enough to spend $3k fixing the leak.

When I park in the garage I leave a piece of cardboard down, and that pretty much takes care of it. However, I'm getting kicked out of the garage soon, and I don't want a big oil slick on my driveway, and cardboard won't work outside. Has anyone come up with something, maybe a type of mat or carpet, that will catch oil drips from outside cars?

Although it will look like ****, one of those large sheet metal oil drip trays would work well for that purpose. With it being outside, you may have to add some stones, bricks, or whatever to keep it weighted down so it doesn't blow all over the driveway when it's windy outside.

Something like this: Lots of places sell them.

Two of my project cars leak, so I've these lining the center of two bays of the garage. They work well at catching slow leaks.

x2 on the 'something to weigh it down.' I'd wager a decent wind would cause them to take flight.

If it is a specific location, something like this might work. Mine comes with a tapped boss ready for mounting. It is self emptying too.

There are other brands of oil mats, but here is one of the best and probably the most expensive.

PIG[emoji768] Oil-Only Absorbent Mat Pad PIG[emoji768] Oil-Only Absorbent Mat
Lightweight, 15" x 20", 200 pads
Lasts 2x longer than ordinary mats for fewer change-outs, while only absorbing oil and fuels, NOT water. Loves oil. Hates water.

When I worked maintaining Vacuum Molding Press Hydraulic Systems, I found PIG Products worked very well. Their Customer Support was much better than average.

when my work van was leaking PS fluid and before I got it fixed, I laid down a pc of corrugated metal, cat litter on top of that to collect the oil .
depends on how much it leaks, a pc of plywood would work too

PIG pads work great. You can also "wring out" the pads frequently until they either fall apart or stop absorbing oils. Toss one in a pan, weigh it down with a rock or something heavy and your gtg.

Go to a junkyard and get a Mercedes belly pan. They have a nice tampon glued to it. Soaks up at least a quart. Can’t have expensive cars leaving drips while under warranty.

I think that product was manufactured by Starkist Automotive Supply.

You lured me in with "with a tapped boss" making me think it came with some mounting tabs or something. I tell you what would work great is one of those black plastic prepackaged food trays meant for the oven. Then maybe a little strapping and/or some neodymium magnets to hold it in place. Well, the mags would be a no go on aluminum though.

Ehh, maybe a few spray cans of FlexSeal would be better. I mean if it can seal a screen door in a boat...

I have one of those big metal flat drip pans that I got at Walmart in the automotive section I don’t use it because my cars don’t leak but it is handy when a customers car does and I have it at home.

I have one of those large metal drip trays under each of my old clunkers. I put the first chunk of something heavy I ran across in the pan to weigh it down. Gets the job done. Just got to be careful pulling in and out to not run it over.
