Leaking flexible braided hose connector under sink

A new bathroom sink faucet was installed a year ago. Today, when the faucet is turned on, water barely comes out of the faucet and instead sprays out of this white connector between the two flexible steel braided lines.

Time to call a plumber? Or can I get tips here for how to fix this myself?

Thanks for any tips offered.

Seems to me like you fixed the symptom but maybe not the cause of the problem. It popped off for a reason maybe it was never fully latched or someone pressed the unlatch button but both sound unlikely if it has been working for years. I would remove the aerator and put my thumb over the hole and stop the flow of water and see if the connector can hold the pressure while being prepared for water to spray everywhere.

When I pushed it back in the first time today, it popped back out. The second time, I felt a definite click and pulling on it, it doesn’t release. There’s a button you can push to detach it. I’m guessing it was either normally engaged and while shoving stuff into the surrounding cabinet below, it was pulled out of the connections or it was never fully seated and the jangling of stuff knocked it out.

Does it make more sense now? How else would water go to the faucet? IMG_2108.jpeg

I’m not familiar with how the drain should be done “right”. Any pointers? Thanks.

You have an S trap. My bathroom sink is the same, that's how it was plumbed back in the 40's or 50's when the bathroom got put in.

S traps don't vent. Mine will siphon if you pull the stopper with a sink full of water. Then you can get sewer gas. The easy solution is to just run a little water afterwards to fill the trap back up. Most of the time I would be using more water anyway.

It's not the way a new new bathroom should be plumbed. But it's just a minor inconvenience.

Thanks. I watched a YouTube video to learn more. I’m always learning new stuff on GJ.

Im not a plumber, but AFAIK...like this...

What you have is an S trap. Usually means it's missing the vent too. At least how it was on my place from the dummy that piped it.
The random smell of sewage after water was used is lovely. (I'm in the process of fixing it all)
