All my floor Jack's leak oil and I want to fix them all

Two are older and two are newer, only paid for one

I assume a seal in the hydraulic cylinder is leaking?

Is this something I can do myself or should I take the cylinders out and pay to have them rebuilt?

you can look the models up and maybe find a rebuild kit or you might have to pull them apart and lookup the o rings by size, but generally rebuilding a simple hydraulic cylinder is very easy, just a little messy.

You can do it yourself, but you should read up a bit beforehand. Understanding the overload bypass valve and it’s adjustment is a concept you should figure out before doing it. There are plenty of jack rebuild threads on GJ to get you up to speed. IMHO, taking the cylinder to a hydraulic shop is not very cost effective. That said, http://theserviceco.net/ is probably the least expensive place to send the jack at the top of your pic (Walker) if you wanted to go that route.

I'm interested in this. I have the same jack as the second one up from the bottom, and it finally stopped working last year. I'd love to fix it.

I have the Craftsmen jack the Yellow/Black one and it leaks from teh cylinder as well, I tried replacing the O Ring and it still leaks. I really do like that jack and would rather not toss it.

I had an old Montgomery Ward floor jack from the 70s that started leaking out the barrel. I took it apart and went to a hydraulic rebuild place (in Wichita, Ks) and they were able to order the correct seal. I loved the light weight of the jack and how low it would go and it had sentimental value to me. Tweaked it somewhat though trying to jack up the back of a 2 ton truck on the dirt road back in the 70s. It is a small 1.5 ton jack.
