I've decided to build a lean-to on the backside of my barn. It will be approximately 12'-14' wide, 20'-24' long, and at the highest, 10' tall sloping to 8' tall at the shortest. I am building this on a pre-existing (cracked) slab to park my tractor and a few spray or mowing implements in. I plan on having it enclosed on three sides and just open on the end. A 12' width gives me 4' of concrete pad between driving space of the tractor and the edge of the lean-to. A 14' width gives me only 2' for eaves and the edge of the building. I'm good at tractoring, but an extra two feet may make it nice to not have to worry about the bucket hitting anything.

How would I go about installing brackets (and what type should I use) to mount upright posts in? I'm planning on having metal brackets installed in the pad so I can run bolts through them and the 4x4 upright posts. Also, how do I transition from vertical metal barn siding to the roof? Is there a transition piece that will block rain from coming down the siding and under the edge of the lean-to?

I plan to run power to it as it will be much more helpful to be lighted, and the adjacent room in the barn already has a sub-panel, so that will be easily done.

I'd love to hear advice or tips on how you may have done your lean-to. I will come back to this thread later with photos of the spot and later updates with my progress. Thank you.

I’m no pole barn expert, by any means, but when I was contemplating a lean to off the back of my steel sided building, it was suggested a saw car on the siding, and then slip a flashing up under the siding Would work.
