Lean to recommended width?

I'm installing a lean-to on a 34x58 pole-barn with 16' walls.

How wide should I make the lean-to? Is 15' optimal/adequate (IE: 15'x58')or larger than needed?

If RV has slides and you want them out while parked under it I would go a few feet wider so you can still get a car or trailer around the RV. I am planning a 16x40 next year off mine so I can park 2 boats side by side. Will be tight but doable at 16 for me but rv will be at least 12 w slides out.

X2 on your needs, Can never have too much space though. I have a lean to on my 50x100 which is another 20' wide so my lean to is 20x50. I would say as large as you can afford is always a good rule to follow as well.

Thats the way it always goes, once you get it built you always wish you went a little bit bigger. Dont think i have built anything yet that i wish was smaller

I'd take into consideration the side wall height of your building and what roof pitch you want on the lean to. Once you figure that out, how tall do you want the roof line on the outer edge of the lean to ? That will dictate how far out you can come with the lean to.

Mine is 15'x59'. A little wider would let me park both of my brother in law's boats side by side.

On the other hand, maybe it is good that it is only 15' wide....

Thanks for the input guys.

While I'm up for minor variances of the 15' to a more practical number (whether that be less or more), I think most of the replies here say it needs at least 50% more to be of additional use. Due to the cost involved, I can only tweak it in minor ways at this time.

This. I have buddies ask me all the time, "Hey, mind if I park my boat, RV ETC on your property?" I politely say NO.

If you can only tweek the numbers a bit I would go 16' wide since the steel for the roofing comes in 2' incriments, no extra cost there.

I let some people park stuff.

My policy is if its parked here, I get to play with it x times per year.

works out.
