I have a 5 inch lean on my already sided garage there is a 3 inch gap on my garage door can I straighten the garage with damaging the siding

We had the same situation, on my son's garage. From the picture, it looks like the right side of the door, and the corner are plumb. The left side of the door jamb, good. Left outside corner, bad ! We shored up the top plate with 4 x 4,s, and cut off the anchor bolts on the bottom plate in that corner area, with a recip saw. (Remove vinyl on the 2 foot wide area) so you can redo the sheathing. Get the wall back to plumb, and dynabolt the bottom plate back down. Note: Put some lateral x braces in the front end, before you attempt this ! We had to bring the bottom of the wall in 3 inches.

Two or three come-a-longs attached to bolts in the floor on one side and to the top plate on the other. And pull the building straight. Brace the walls that are now square and you're good to go.

Obviously, if the building is not stable enough to be inside while you do this, don't do it.

How much damage are you willing to accept? Looks like wood siding, you can take out some of the lean.

I did on a 70 year old garage. I had a convenient tree about 10 feet away. I used a 4x4 and a house jack against the tree and pushed on the top plate. I pushed it straight, then used plywood inside to create shear plates. It wasn't sided inside at all. The outside was 1x6 shiplap.

Pull slow and over time. When reading about straightening roof lines many years ago, believe the estimate was under 1" of movement per day. Let things settle in a bit with each pull...

Straightened and strengthen (plywood in the corners) a little single car garage nearly 40 years ago. It's still standing (according to Google Street View).

You want to straighten the garage and damage the siding? Why?

Looking at the pic- front wall left of door looks like the bottom is wider than the top- and sided that way.
At a minimum, I'd remove the lap siding left of door. You will probably have to remove the first two courses of gable peak shingle siding, in order not to buckle it.
I'm guessing it's vinyl shake, which is a bit difficult to remove from bottom up, due to the way it locks together.
It's a great looking bldg. I would have no issues taking all the front siding off in order to get things straight. Figure 2 days for R and R on siding, should be able to reuse all.

Is the garage really leaning? Or did the slab just settle and that is creating the gap? It looks like this has a concrete foundation and footer and everything looks to be in good shape. Is it really leaning? I wonder if the OP is ever coming back?

My mom's garage had a two inch lean. I screwed an eye bolt in the top plate and one in the opposite bottom plate and used a winch to pull it square, actually about 1/2 past. Then I paneled the end wall with plywood and removed the winch. It had vinyl siding so it was more forgiving that wood siding.

Was the garage sided before or after the lean? You might try the same, but do it over time, maybe a month, to let the garage settle in to the new position.
