Leave prices in SOLD postings

Maybe this has been posted, but I went back to mid 2007 and didn't see anything.

I'd rather people leave the last price they offered an item for before it sold, then edit the final selling price by substituting the word "SOLD".

Maybe there's a reason they modify the posts to edit out the price?

Because the item was sold, the price is no longer very relevant. The deal is already done.

I can see the advantage in leaving the price. It establishes a history if you want to sell something similar and gives you an idea of going value if you want to buy something similar.

I'd prefer if the sellers would leave on the posting what they sold the item for, so I'd have a better idea of what stuff is selling for.

However, if a repeat seller on here lets some stuff go for less than he would normally be asking, it may be in his interest to not let the rest of us know what he sold something for.

I think it should be discretionary, at the whim of the seller. As John said, you might sell a tool for less than what you think it's "worth" just to move it.

I think the price should stay. Its a valuable resource in setting tool values.

Some forums i visit have a rule where the price stays just for this reason. Its very useful and helps to keep the ones that have less experience from buying something they might regret. Also it reduced the number of people that join just so they can sell something at an outrageous price and leave, never to return.

Also some sites have a feedback system, similar to Ebays where buyers can rate their experience with a seller, although from what ive seen the vast majority on here seem to be excellent sellers (at least i havent seen buyers posts to the contrary)

I always leave the price and pictures on, at least couple days after the buyer received the shipment. so the buyer can have a reference when verifying the content. normally I will delete the picture link later on to save the bandwidth, still keep the price.

I've always wished people would leave the prices on the ad. No need to change the price to the sold price, I just would like to see what the last asking price was. Helps price things in the future. My 2 cents, but I know most people like to wipe it out for some reason.

I think most of the guys on here have a general idea of what stuff is worth, There are the exeptions and i suppose it works both ways, If someone lists a item and within 2 min its sold... Well you get the picture and if it gets rebumped 10 times over 2 weeks there is your other extreme. Sometimes i list stuff cheap to move it so i can finance another venture. It varies whether i remove the price or not, I normally mark it as sold and thank the buyer.

Pic is filed in the For Sale Photobucket directory. If I leave it in it becomes confusing to those who check the For Sale link in my signature. So after its sold I try to remember to delete the pic from the directory.

I can see where this is a useful feature.

I've had great service from everyone with two exceptions: one guy who just couldn't seem to find the time or willingness to mail out my package (it took several months -- something like 5 or 6 to get all the goods), and another person who didn't disclose an engraving on the tool, claiming that he didn't see it. It was pretty obvious that it was there, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt, since it was going to be a tool for work and not for collecting.

But then again, all the good sellers are known, so I suppose it's buyer beware on a new guy that comes along.

^ Agreed, I was just thinking the same thing the other day looking through the listings. I like seeing what things are selling for and I like to see the deals someone else got.

I too wish the buyers would leave feed back as i see from time to time and i would like to know how i preformed.
