I think it's a great idea! It could damage your muffler bearings, but won't harm your flux capacitor.
If you leave your glove box open your muffler bearings will drip dry.
I opted for the fuel injected ash trays on my car, along with the high rise hub caps, the muffler bearings dry quickly even if the glove box is closed.
Well, it sounds like this thread ended up working out well for the OP. My post was spot on.

Not so fast, EP. I'm driving a 1968 VW Beetle. My muffler bearings only dry when I remove the radiator cap, notwithstanding glove box open or closed.

My selector has safe, semi, and burst - there is no neutral.
