Hi, I bought this many years ago, and I have hated it since. I have had many problems with the halogen bulbs. Should I toss it, or is there a easy socket or a LED for this?

OK, trash day is Friday. I just thought if a LED chip could be used, would work, since the housing is aluminum, heat sink.....

I have a question. You said you have had many problems with your light. When you installed the bulbs, do you touch them with your bare hands?

I have four of those style halogen light fixtures, and the bulbs last easily 8 to 10 years when I put a few hours a week on them.

I have had mine for close to 25 years now, and they have worked great for me.

Yes they are not LED, and yes they get damn hot! But to replace them now with newer LED models would cost more than it's worth, since replacement halogen bulbs are only 7 bucks each.

Perhaps the wiring is bad? Or maybe something is loose inside that makes the bulbs burn out faster?

You never said it, but how long do the bulbs last in that fixture?

Hey Jim, it wasn't so much as the bulds would burn out. For whatever reason I constantly had corrosion on the contacts, either on the bulb or the fixture. I'll use the stand for some 4' LED lights I bought when Home Depot had them, cheap

There are kits that can convert to LED, but they are too expensive to make it worth it.

You can try Die-Electric grease on the contacts to help keep the corrosion down. That seems to work for me. I put it on all the bulbs I put into my cars. Maybe it would work for this.

I wonder why the corrosion is there to begin with? Strange. I don't every remember seeing any corrosion on any of the halogen lights I have.

Do you keep the lights in a damp location perhaps?
