Starting to think through lighting for the garage on my new house.

3 bay garage roughly 22x30 with 10' ceilings.

Was originally thinking 2x 2x4 led flat panels in each bay. Probably Metalux FP series. Surface mount. 5000k, 40w.

Then I got to thinking that 2 in each bay probably isnt enough so thought to go to 3x 2x4 panels. Then thinking that might be to much.

Then I got to thinking that possibly 4x 1x4 panels would be better in each bay.

Anybody got thoughts on this?

Also open to other brands, just dont know **** about other brands quality. Metalux, while not super high end, is actually available at my local Elliot Electric supply and is an Eaton brand, so, in theory, warranty would be pretty easy.

Dont want to spend more than 100 per fixture plus the surface mount kit(the Metalux kit seems to be ~30 bucks).

They're all dimmable, so dont worry about overlighting it. With 9 of them, you wont be overlit anyway. To dim, ask your supplier for pricing on a Lutron Vive PowPak with 0-10V dimming, and 2 Pico controllers for the Vive.
Easy enough to wire it up in the ceiling and no wires or switches necessary.

I guess what has gotten me thinking about going with more, but smaller fixtures is to spread the light vs. concentrating it with only 2 or 3 larger fixtures, but I dont know that thats an issue. I have never used these LED flat panels before so I dont know how their light throws.

I also see that there is a drywall kit available(in addition to surface mount). I need to see what the ceiling framing is set to. The Eaton brochure says the opening for the 1x2 light is 12 3/16" so I need to measure between the ceiling joists to make sure I have that.

I would have to do the lights like this in that case because the joists run front to back instead of side to side.

Wrong. There are many that can't be dimmed. If you want that option, make sure you buy a dimmable fixture.
