LED high bay

I have a 40x40 shop with 12' high walls with a 4:12 roof pitch. Two interior walls are white steel siding the rest to include the ceiling will have spray insulation. I've looked at the threads on using fluorescent/LED tube fixtures and most require a significant number. In the long run would it be cheaper to just use fewer commercial LED high bay fixtures like these: http://www.beeslighting.com/product-p/cxb-a-uv-m-40k-8-ul-10v.htm

My thought is cheaper installation than multiple smaller fixtures and less bulbs to change.

a few bright lights can indeed light up a space - but like the sun that can light up the whole world from a single spot - the result is shadows.

a lighting set up with many lights will have a much better illumination for working with less shadowing. If you are going with LEDS, let us hope that changing bulbs is a rare event.

High bay lights are for ~24' and higher ceilings, not for 12' high ceilings. The beam won't spread enough and will be too bright where the light it.

Hobby shop or revenue shop?

I'd just use a bunch of 4' T5 tubes. Go LED 4' fixtures if you must. But you won't see a dramatic improvement in energy efficiency unless you are in there 10 hours a day, 250 days a year with LED vs T5. Yes, LEDs *are* more efficient, but they are also ~2x more expensive.

If you want to go super cheep on the install, then a whole bunch of edison bases and individual 100 Watt bulbs.

Before you make a decision, go to the top of this forum and read the "sticky" post called "the best light fixture" ever and the next one "light fixture layout collections" These were done by a member who designs lighting systems for a living. A lot of information there that should help you with your decision.
