I have read through many threads on here and I am still trying to decide on what type of lighting to install in my garage. I have an attached garage that I do some light fabrication/welding in and some woodworking in and I need some good lighting. I was going to install some flourescent light fixtures but was thinking about making some drop down panels and put some LED can lights in. What are your opinions?

I went all LED (see my workshop thread). Costs have come down a lot, to the point where I felt it was worth it in the long term. Plus, I much prefer the quality of high-CRI LED light to most fluorescent.

We did all LED in our house, and we really like them. The shop isn't finished yet, so lighting will be a year or more down the road. With prices continuing to drop, LED is making more sense. I did have a problem, though. We had a lightning strike, and it baked an LED light, along with a few other electronic things. The scary part is that the light wasn't on at the time, so there must have been a surge through the neutral or ground. I hope this isn't a common problem, as I have lots of $$$ invested in LED, and thunderstorms are pretty common around here.

I just threw in two 100w LED bulbs in my garage for now.... We recently bought and not much money to spend right now. I'm surprised how well they are working.
