My lovely wife is really good at turning on every light in the house, but hasn't figured out how to turn them off.

Over the last several months, I have been replacing the current incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. While she still leaves lights on, the cost savings on the electric bill has been significant.

Any time I can reduce the amount that I have to send to the power company, I feel like I'm a winner

I solved it for the kids when they were younger by replacing their switches with 30 min timers that had no hold position.

Do they really save that much more than CFL?

The OP stated that he was replacing incandescent bulbs.

to answer your question, led and cfl are fairly close.

I switched over to LED lighting and I still get after everybody to turn them off, because it's lazy and wasteful.

Money is money.

100w incandescent equates roughly to 26w CFL in lumen output.
LED versions are now around 14w, so nearly 1/2 the energy consumption of CFL.
You can look at it 2 ways.
One way is that it saves almost 50% of the cost of energy of CFL.
The other way is that it only saves about 12 watts over CFL.
Most residential lights are only 'ON' a couple hundred hours per year, so any difference in price between CFL and LED bulbs will take a very long time to recoup.
Good luck,
CD

I have never found a CFL that came close the giving me the quality of light the led bulbs put out. Not sure about OP, but to me it's worth using led over cfl

Save your receipts for when the LEDs start failing. Five year warranties are great, if you can use them.
I've warrantied a few bulbs that died within a year or two of purchase date. They sent new ones to me with almost no questions asked, maybe just the serial number on the bulb.
