Has anyone tried to install LED strip lights in their Racedeck floor...or LED strip lights in their garage in general?

I was just looking at LED strip lights at a lighting store this weekend. Very thin, very bright - looks like you might just be able to insert them in between tiles and then snap them together again...they are pretty cheap too (amazon.com). Here's one example:

Just wondering, since Racedeck has an LED lighting solution (check out 'Gear' on the Racedeck website). Im sure Mr. Moller has something to say ...

i have those LED strips in a different packaging from Costco. They are thin, but not thin enough to wedge in the gap between tiles. they are probably about 1/8" thick. i better way to incorporate them into racedeck tiles might be to use a router and route out a groove in your tiles wide enough for the LEd strips to be "embedded" inside.

Hey B,

My thoughts too...although thin, not thin enough...so Im wondering how they accomplish this:

http://www.racedeck.com/racedeck_gear.html

The Racedeck CSR chat assistant said there is a 'routered edge' but was unclear. I am awaiting e-mail reply...

i think that's pretty much describes it! they router the edge and stick the LED strip on the edge. the more interesting part is how they connect one strip to the other. The LED strips i have use a "connector wire" that is about 2" long; I wonder if they made some special connector so the LED strips are connected simply by laying the tiles together?

Those strips at Amazon show a working temp of -20 to +50 degrees, but doesn't specify C or F. I thought about laying them in the control joints my garage floor, but 50F obviously wouldn't do. Anyone know if that spec is C or F?

Hi,

Your RaceDeck specialist is correct. We do have an edge engineered with space to hold a strand of LED lights. These edges snap into the perimeter of your floor for a really cool way to make your garage stand out. I see that we are sending you a few samples, I'm happy to include a sample of the edging as well.

Happy designing!
