Does anyone have experience using recessed LED Panels? Pros/Cons? Thinking of using them for the ceiling of my garage.

Thanks

Pro: Very efficient from a brightness and power consumption perspective

Con: Very expensive and would take considerable time to recoup the costs versus T8 or T5 fluorescent lighting.

This sums it up in a nutshell.

When high quality, they can be extremely high brightness and high CRI. The problem is that they are still pricey.

Yep, I was considering the same and came to the same conclusion. Some free fluorescent fittings sealed my decision! However my Dad is building a new house with large attached garage/workshop underneath, and he opted for the LED panels. Not finished yet, so I don't have any pictures, but it should work well. He opted for some from Phillips.

With that awesome floor you have in your garage, the LED panels might be a good choice. Florescents will really reflect off of it if they are not diffused properly, but it's hard to beat the availability & price of florescents.
I'm not sure there really are any cons to the LED's other than the initial cost for the panels. Even DIY LED lighting still isn't super cheap yet. You might check into the aquarium/fish keeping industry for alternatives. A lot of us were doing DIY LED's back before they became affordable to buy, but now they have become more reasonable for those applications. You might find something there that suits you.

Thanks for the info guys, good to hear the only con is cost. I think I'll go that way, I like the look.
