Led replacements....who has em?

Building a new 30x60 barn. It is an open design high ceilings 7/12 pitch. Looking for lighting options. Thought about using 4' t8 or led lights. Saw a thread on here with led flood lights. Thought about using the flood lights at the top of the beams they are 20' ceiling at the peak. Was wondering who has led lights and what the reviews are so far in comparison to standard fluorescent lights.

There was a thread in Hot Deals that Costco had 4' LED dual tubes/fixtures for around $40 each. Might want to investigate that.

In my work garage, I just replaced 12 of my 14 year old gimpy t12 daylight spectrum with 5K 14.5 watt Phillips Instafits. I had solid state t12 ballasts, but the phillips specifically needs T8 solid-state ballasts. They have a ballast compatiblity list on the web, hard to find. Ended up more expensive than using ballast-bypass LEDs. Shoot for using tubes 2,000 or more lumens.

The light did pick-up to a degree. The solid constant lighting is more appealing than the wavering plasma fluorescent.

Over the workbench is a 20w 6K Benchmark Viribright (double ended powered). Via Amazon. It's a bypass style. This one has more punch/brilliance and will be using this in the other two garages.

The one over your bench? Is it a flood light? If so would those work well in series?

At work we just had 4 tube T5 flourecent fixtures installed and WOW are they bright. The T5's are designed to be used with high ceilings/roof so at 20' height they would be perfect for you.

I was just at a facility where all the old Sodium high bay lights were replaced with either T5's or LED tubes. The lighting is 10x better with less shadows and much better color.

They even took it a step further and added motion detectors in areas that don't see much foot traffic. Area stays dark until someone walks there.

It's my understanding the use of T5 or LED depended on how easy it was to access the fixture.

This was my thinking. I have a beam every ten feet. Was thinking of putting four flood type 50w led lamps at the very top of the first four beams with two ceiling fans. The last twenty feet will have loft space so i might not put the floods up not sure yet.

Was thinking about either using 4' t8 lights hanging by chains from the ceiling 10' from the wall or using 4' led instead. Another thought was possibly hanging the lights on the wall 8' high (i have 10' sidewalls) instead of hanging them from the ceiling. This is why i was trying to get feedback on the led lights before i go buy them and they are not what im looking for.

I have used the t8 lights in the past and they are good lights but the cheap box store lights have junk ballast and i dont feel like getting 20' in the air to change bulbs and ballast all that much. Would like to buy sonething that will last a while. Here in michigan it gets cold in the winter and those t8 lights dont like the cold weather all that much.

I ended up at Costco today and bought some of the Feit 4' LED workshop lights to replace my T8's in the garage. They are 'inexpensive' but I'm very happy with them. They are brighter than the fluorescent bulbs I had, and a bit whiter. No more flickering, cold /delayed starts, or dead bulbs (I hope!). Would recommend them. They won't survive much abuse though - fine for me, but physically you get what you pay for.
