LED shop lights

Has anyone used LED shop lights seems like a good idea there brighter but the insane cost wasn't sure if it would be worth the money.ive also heard your suppose to use a special fixture.but also heard you rewire a regular florescent fixture to work on LED bulbs.

I haven't replaced the flourescent tubes yet but I have changed a few bulbs in the last couple months. My droplight now gas a 60w equivalent LED bulb in it. Seems like a perfect bulb for that purpose. My mill and drill press both have 50w equivelent bulbs in them, no more roasting under a french fry lamp when working on these, and if they work as indicated, I'll probably never put a bulb in them again.. My shop porch lights now have 60w equivelent led spot lights in them. They stay on sunset to sunrise do I was changing them Regurlarly. Hopefully I wont have to change them again for 5 or 10 years.

I wrote install dates on every bulb.

I've got my attached "Mustang garage" lit up with LED wraps from Lithonia and I'm very happy with them. They run about 125$ at most electrical wholesale distributors ( I paid nothing for them, returns from a job). Proper LED strips and highways are about 2-3x the cost today of fluorescent but long life and lower consumption make them very viable in commercial settings. We're currently doing a ton of business locally with retrofits in warehouses, shops, dealers etc... With less than 3 year paybacks for the most part. For home use, I'd say we're about another 1-2 years away from inexpensive enough for home use products.

I converted one of my fixtures in the garage when the ballast went bad. It cost about $80 to buy the bulbs from jasper ecotech lighting. It was worth it.

I've seen the local walmart has LED fixtures and bulbs now. But why would anyone buy the fixtures for 60 when you retro fit the florescent to do the same for less then 10

Where do you find them for $10?

The florescent fixtures.without the pull cord are about 10 at Walmart I think I paid less then 15 for the fixture and florescent bulbs

I thought you were talking about LED bulbs for the retrofit.

He means buy a standard fixture and retro fit it. The led bulbs are still expensive. My 4ft ones were like $44 each.

Lowes in my area has 60W equivalent Osram LEDs for $4.98 @ (standard E26/A19 form). I just bought a bunch of these and they are phenomenal. Very bright, dimmable, and use only 8.5 Watts.

Yea, I just don't understand the statement that $60 LED fixtures are a bad deal when comparing to retrofitting an existing T8 fixture when you consider LED retrofit bulbs are $20-40 each.

They have fixtures at Walmart made for the 4' led bulbs.kinda dumb the fixtures cost more for less seeing how there just the wires and the case with no ballst

Just bought LED fixture from Cosco for $38, very bright and energy efficiant
