LED strips to light up driveway

Hello

Has anyone used LED strips to light up the driveway in front of the garage? Does it give enough light?

My plan is to use waterproof 5630 LED strips (~1000 lumens/m) above the garage door and below the windows (marked with red in picture).

Does it sound like something that could work?

Funny you should say that. I had some scrap 5050 LED strips I was playing with. Not the IP-65 coated type that can be used outdoors. I wired up a foot of it, and stuck it inside a piece of clear vinyl tubing, which I attached to the underside of an overhang with romex staples. It is the perfect light for this spot that was always a "dark alley" before.

Yeah, it could possibly work. But it might look a little funny in your configuration.

If it were me, I'd use RGBW strips, and then you could alter the colors seasonally for different holidays. I've got RGB strips around my porch windows for just that.

I think it can work and you can always double them up if need be.
My concern is that will the lights under the windows throw light far enough out at their height to be effective on the left side.
I think I would think about adding a couple of strips under the eve of the house as well for more light. LED lights are very directional so the ones under the eve can be tilted a bit to aim out further.
You can always try your plan and add the eve lights later if need be.

I would do a led motion or spot light on side of house, that will give you a lot more light than the strips. Come right out from the attic, and prob look better. How do you plan on wiring them up,you will see the wires on the outside

If you mount the LED strips on a small triangular strip of wood, you could then throw more light out into the driveway instead of washing the walls with it

Thank you for the advice. My plan is to use some triangular strip of wood to spread the light.

I haven't quite figured out how to hide the wires on the side of the house yet. Maybe I'll try the strip above the garage and then something different under the eve of the house.

Fortunately the LED strips are cheap so if it doesn't work as planned I can always find some more light

I got a few yards of these and 6 controllers from the surplus store, a few are in the attic near the corners, one in each corner of the yard.

I'm about to see about using the last two along the sides of my driveway, so I can quit running off the edge in the dark.
