I’ve had the bulbs in my garage flickering for some time, and have been wanting to replace the fixtures with led ones but it just hasn’t been on the top of my list for bits right now. But today I was in Costco and came upon the retrofit bulbs and bought 1 pair to see if they would work in my fixtures. Got them home and installed them and they work great although being soft white while I prefer the bright white in the garage. Only problem I have with them is being $18 for the pair and my fixtures needing 4ea and about 8 fixtures. That’s about $300 after tax for just bulbs. I looked online and have found quite a few brands for cheaper but I’ve had bad luck with buying leds online. Anyone have a brand they recommend that doesn’t break the bank? Costco brand was Feit.

If I am reading the box correctly....it says 1700 lumens?

I just bought 4 foot LED Shop Lights at Farm & Home for $24.99 (on sale).
4500 Lumens!!!!!!
Only use 40 watts of 120 VAC and they are very bright.
With a 12 Ft. ceiling in my garage they are the ticket.
And they include a 5 ft cord and a convenience outlet so you can connect up to 5 units from 1 outlet.

Take a look at the Best Light Fixture ever thread. There are cheaper tube options and you should be able to qualify for free shipping with your order size. You can decide whether the savings is worth mail order vs. local.

Be sure to buy the correct tubes. There are different configurations: With or without ballast, single or double end powered.

Retrofit vs. new fixtures is a personal choice, but I would opt for the retrofit. It's all cheap Chinese junk, so when they fail I would much rather replace tubes than entire fixtures.

I just got done replacing all of my 48" fixtures and retrofitted five 96" fixtures with LED tubes.
I found 24w 6000k 2200lm tubes on Amazon.
I found one source selling the "direct" wire type tubes @ 16 for $119.95
They required a little rewiring in the fixtures. Basically just cut out the ballast, these tubes don't require them. No more humming......
The 96" fixtures I found kits to allow the use of four 48" tubes. Again, required some rewiring and attaching the kits.
I finally got it down to where I could convert the old T12 fixtures to LED in about 10 minutes..

I still have six more 96" lights to convert. Thats going to have to wait a few weeks.
All told,
The 48 tubes and 5 retrofit kits I'm under $450.00
The new LEDs are awesome, no flickering, no humming and seriously lights up my shop......
