lol, now that you put it that way. My lights stay one 6 hours max, on the weekend, and 2 - 3 hours every other day, if I'm home. So it would essentially take me 6 - 8 years to recoup the cost. Yea, no.
You would need to re-wire your fixture to remove the ballast. Not a big deal tho.
Let's do some math. These tubes cost approx $40 more than a regular T8 and produce slightly less light. For simplicity sake, let's say they produce the same amount of light but use 16watts less power.
Typical cost of electricity is 10 cents per killowatt hour.
$40 is therefor equivilent to 400 killowatt hours of electricity.
With 16 watts of power savings, it would take 62.5hrs of runtime to save 1 killowatt hour or 25,000hrs of runtime to save 400 killowatt hours
25,000hrs of runtime = 1041 days = 2.85 years of constant runtime. Assuming you average 8hrs a day with your lights on it would take 8.5years for the energy savings to pay for the additional cost of the lamp.
Nevermind the advertised life expectancy of 30,000hrs.
For once....someone who knows how to do the math.....
Anything with a payback over 2 years is usually not a good deal.
Also consider the fact that in about 8 years, lighting technology will most likely be at a new level....and those lights will be obsolete....
