Those are basically architectural lights. i.e., for looks only. Perhaps for security around doors and windows. Generally you'll see them used for lighting "drama" on commercial buildings.

Pretty expensive just to light up a door.

That's a lot of light for the side of a garage. They work best when mounted over 10' above grade. You also don't have to worry about stray light with this style because all the light is directed down and not out. If they are to be mounted on the side of a door, I'd look for something in the 10 to 15 watt range. A 5000K color looks very white outside.

While I'm not a big fan of the poly housing, they provide lots of light, have a 5 yr warranty and I've installed quite a few of them. No complaints to date.
