So a good friend of mine's brother recently passed away and we are taxed with the task of cleaning out his house and garage. As we explore the garage we find he has every possible tool imaginable form harmonic balancers to sockets, pretty much every specialty tool available. Also vintage Snap On pin up girl clocks and other collectables. We don't know what they're worth and we don't know where to sell them anybody have any ideas majority of it is brand new and gently used Mac, Matco and Snap-on. Thank you for any advice!

Sorry for your friend losing his brother. It’s hard and lot time consuming to sale one piece at time plus dealing with shipping. But if that’s not problem then start here at this forum. Or if possible to organize contents to display so that buyers don’t have bend over to pick up something, have a weekend sale. Pass out flyers at local auto shops.
Value??? Well as my ole father inlaw use say “You can go down in price, but you can’t go up”

Where are you located?? If that were my problem and I had the time to devote to that challenge, I'd list a few things on Kijiji and FB Market place and see how it goes, may turn out to be a bunch of BS. In that case. call in one of those auction companies that does clearouts.

Don't ask.
Search this and similar forums for previous threads. There is one just about weekly. Typically the answer is E-bay and sell in sets, if you have time and don't mind the effort. Otherwise sell as a lot (for much less $) to someone that will resell.

The Snap On clocks and collectibles need to go on an internet auction somewhere. I was watching a friend's estate sell a few years ago, and the Snap On clocks all started bidding wars, and brought stupid money.

Letting us know what area of the country you are in and how quickly you need to clean out the house/garage would help with recommendations. For example, in the Houston area, there are several estate sale companies I know of that are reasonably priced and do both in person and online sales. They catalog, take pictures, set prices and would auction off the really desirable items. I wouldn't have access to that back in Louisiana. The upside is you generally make the most money/invested effort, but the downside is that generally takes a lot of time. You also might search a good consignment shop nearby; maybe they are up for the challenge.

Anyway, sorry for the loss of your brother's friend. If you happen to be anywhere in the SE Texas/Louisiana area, feel free to reach out. I'd be willing to lend a hand if needed. I would just need to work around holidays and my job. Best of luck.

Contact an estate sale company. They will auction it all off and handle all of the auction advertising. They have experts that know what tools and collectibles are valued at.

There are dozens of threads like this here from people with one post. Most older tools are inch sized, not metric, and basically worthless today; the last US passenger vehicle with primarily inch fasteners was made 40 years ago. And most commercially used tools are beat to ****. So, you're not going to get much for them.
As said, clocks and neat memorabilia is worth putting on Ebay. 1974 30 tooth ratchets and old SAE impact sockets won't bring much.
Good luck.

Sorry for your loss. You may want to contact a qualified auctioneer in your area, using hibid, or live in person auction format. Good luck.

Sorry for your loss.

You have to decide what the goal is.

If you must get top dollar or if you need it sold fast.

I took on a similar situation. The shop was in a rented commercial space. The lease could be broken within 30 days in the event of a death. So it had to go fast.

I priced stuff a 50% of the current retail price. Zero haggling for 72 hours after it was posted. Very few things lasted 72 hours and it all went away.

If you want maximum money, you’ll have to work through this very slowly and sell each item.

If you want it done, get an estate sale company.
Ebay seems to have a ton of snap on one off tools you can't find elsewhere. Our estate sale agent took a 50 percent fee I guess because there wasn't much left after we went through it all. Only about 10k so they wanted atleast $5k to make it worth their while. Personally, I think a big garage sale is the best way to go after you get an idea of what the stuff is worth. I still have a bunch of my parents stuff I need to get rid of that I guess I was sentimental about at the time, but not really anymore.

IMHO, the best way to sell his collection is to contact an auction company that specializes in this type of sale. They will organize the items and do the advertising. Most important is to draw a crowd which makes advertising very important. Sell a few of the collectibles separately if you want but don’t sell off the good stuff and expect the leftovers to sell well. The good stuff draws the crowd. Around here the commission will be 25-30%.
