Legacy Industrial - HD-6600 Sealer

Hi folks. I am new to the forum and have found lots of of informative info here. Thanks to all!

I am looking at sealing my garage floor this spring once. I have a new garage floor (poured 6-8 months ago), never seen any vehicles, spills, or stains. I live in Canada and we see lots of road salt and sand during the winter.

I was considering using the Legacy Industrial HD-6600 sealer. I noticed that this sealer is labeled as "Interior". Does anyone know or have any experience as to whether it would be appropriate for my garage floor given the road salt, etc.? Does anyone have any experience with this product?

I'm not looking to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars, but ultimately want something that will last and not cause me problems later, otherwise it's not worth doing. There seems to be so many options, and lots of folks seem to suggest staying away from big-box store products, so I'm a little overwhelmed with all the different options.

I put it on in the fall, does not hold up to standing water from snow. It has peeled up around all 4 tires. If your garage is heated and dries out maybe you will have better luck.

Dave, acrylic sealer is no replacement for epoxy.
Go for epoxy with urethane over top.

I too was not thrilled with the Sealer, Im sure its a good product for what its designed for but water seemed to take it off, I ended up grinding it off and Putting Legacy's HD Epoxy down along with urethane Top coat

Well that's disappointing. I was planning on using 6600 in my garage this Spring.

If this sealer won't seal against water, what is it's purpose?

I don't understand how acrylic sealer can fail from just water? - it's commonly used on boats hulls, cars and RVs. Reportedly it lasts about a year. Is it because acrylic does not adhere well to concrete?

If wb acrylics are applied too thick or too thin, it can disrupt the efficacy.

How long should I expect an epoxy + urethane to last?

It sounds like the epoxy with urethane is the way I should go. Scotty, I suspect you'd recommend one of the garage kits (such as http://legacyindustrial.net/cart/legacy-hd-system-coatings-only-300-sq-ft-p-208.html), yes?

Also, I noticed that Legacy offers an "Optional Primer", and "UV Booster". My understanding is that the urethane would provide ample UV protection. Under what circumstances would I want to add those the coatings?

Dave:

UV Booster is for floors getting a ton of light.
My own Florida floor gets plenty of exposure at the front and has not ambered.

Always recommend the primer, never coat a floor without it.

Epoxy/urethane systems can last 30, 40 even 50 years.
Everything comes back to prep and maintenance.

Also, just one coat of polyurethane on top?

If you are honoring the joint, fill post cure with an SL urethane caulk.

If you will cover use Hd821 gel crack filler.

Yes, one coat of polyurethane is all that's needed.
