Legacy Industrial Prototype Epoxy Install

I was lucky enough to be chosen to test Legacy Industrial's new epoxy kit.

I received the kit by UPS on March 31st 2011 around 4:00pm.

It was delivered in 3 packages.

Initial thoughts on packaging and product thus far.

The entire kit was all packaged very well and no items show damage from shipping.

Everything is well labeled with information on the specific item and how/when it will be used.

The tools included for the install(roller, rollers, mixer, brushes and bucket) are are good quality.

Install:

Will be taking place in the next few weeks, hoping for a nice week-end soon.

So far Legacy Industrial gets a huge thumbs up from me:thumbup:

Does that include the "MOISUTRE CURED URETHANE?" :D (Just giving you a hard time, as I enjoy your pictures and from what I can tell your products seem top notch. I actually look forward to having an excuse to try them out sometime. Now fix that label!!)

I will hopefully have the time to do my floor next week pending weather! Planning to get it prepped over the week-end.

Thanks for the bucket opening picture. That's one step that would have been tough to figure out. j/k :D

Interested to see how it turns out as I'm at the point of needing to pick a product.

Our weather here has been awful. Either rainy or very humid. My garage floor has been too damp to apply the product. Every time I do a wetness test with plastic, I have moisture/water in a few hours.

Hopefully we get a warm week here soon!

The floor is stripped/etched and ready to go. I can't believe how rough the floor get's after etching it.

Once the floor passes a dry test the first coat will go down!

I too got pick as one of the lucky guys and will start my own thread but looks to be like we will be around the same time frame give a week or two of final look!!

Men, a little bit of advice and frankly this apply's to any epoxy coating installation, not just Legacy Industrial's garage flooring kits. If your climate is especially hot, keep your materials in the house or basement at least 24 hours before you start coating. Looking for 70-75 degrees.

This will help the material from "kicking" too fast in the heat.
You will not be able to control the floor or air temp but the material temp will at least give you a little edge over Mother Nature.

My material is sitting inside the basement. Hoping the floor is fully dry tonight so I can get the base coat down.

I will snap some pictures before laying the base coat. Also some in process some ones too.

I'm super excited to do mine now!!

What was your method of throwing the chips in?

I feel like I am going to not get even coverage with tossing them in the air.

I tried sprinkling the chips out of a peanut butter plastic can with 5/16 holes drilled in top, however I had better luck doing them by hand. A few spots got more then others.

My wife will be taking some pictures tomorrow morning without the afternoon sun blaring in.

I will do a full review hopefully tomorrow, got busy at work today.

My review:

I was very pleased with how the kit was delivered and labelled. The instructions were very straight forward and easy to follow.

I choose to acid etch my floor and did it twice before I was satisfied with the result.

I applied the first coat in a 3 foot section the entire width of my garage then continued to my tape line(inside the door seal)

I waited till the floor was dry as per the instructions(no imprint left after pressing)

I then began applying the second coat. I would do a 3 foot section then sprinkle the chips allowing my self room at the edge of the second coat to go back over that area, and continue until my tape line.

I used the entire bag of chips and have pretty uniform coverage.

I then waited as per the construction's to apply the clear. The first 3 foot section I sprinkled the anti slip powder onto the floor as I rolled, this ended up being very gritty/grippy so I decided to mix the anti slip into the clear.

The remainder turned out not as gritty/grippy as I wanted by it will do.

I only used the supplied rollers for the job however had a spare matching roller around I used for the clear coat.

I let the floor dry for 2.5 days before moving a few items back in and I have seen no negative results of that.

I will be pulling a car back in this Friday, 5 days after completion.

Feel free to ask any question, I will work on getting some better pictures with the Wife's' DSLR.

Legacy Industrial you will be recommended by me to anyone I can from now on and will be using your products in a few years when we get another house/garage!

I pulled a car in Friday evening, no issues at all. Saturday I had to work on my daily driver so I went to town. Used small carpet squares under the jack stands and had no issues. Dropped a few tools, rolled the jack around, etc.

Floor held up great!

I want to remind everyone that this is our standard "waterborne" coating system with the added benefit of our HD-356VOC Urethane Topcoat. It will be resistant to gasoline, many household chemicals, abrasion, UV yellowing etc...
It comes in (12) epoxy colors and (12) different custom flake blends.

One quick question reading through your quick review, you said you did two coats.

How long does your kit take to fully harden? I ask because if you mix the entire kit wouldn't it cure before the first coat is hard to then apply the second coat?

Also what kind of cabinets are those?

KTM received our Standard Kit. This is a waterborne system, requiring two coats. You have the HD system which is 100% solids and only requires one coat.

In addition to the (2) coats of epoxy we also supplied our urethane topcoat.

I can't speak for KTM but he should have applied the coats in succession after a quick test to make sure he could walk out on the floor without getting stuck.
To test, he probably stuck his thumb into the coating. If his imprint didn't get left behind he was ok to go back onto the floor and apply the next coat.

Once all three coats are down it will take approx 24 hours for light foot traffic and a few days for vehicles (to be safe).

The cabinets are from an Ollies store close out. I am not sure of the brand sorry.

I just wanted to give an update on the floor.

I have had no issues with it after some abuse from jacks, jack-stands, moving heavy items and winter salt. I just cleaned the floor last week of all the winter dirt and salt and it looks as it did when installed. My wife's car is the garage queen and I was nervous that the snow tires on it may leave some yellow spots or stains however this was not the case!
