When I was working, I didn't mind lending tools. BUT, I always made it clear that it was a "one strike and your out" policy. If you didn't return a clean undamaged tool as soon as you were done with it, then you won't get to borrow my tools again. If you break it, you'd better have an equal replacement when you come in to work the next day. And don't EVER touch my tools without asking first.

I'm not a large guy, but I made sure that all my co-workers were terrified of touching my tools without permission, and that they treated them with respect when they did. It got to the point that I didn't even have to say anything to the new guys. My co-workers would spread the word before I even saw the new kid.

Lay down the law first, make friends later.

^^ +1

i'm the guy with the bad disposition that nobody likes.

i'm not at work to be friends with anyone..

i'll loan something to a co-worker 1 time, or suggest the tool that will make the job easier/faster/or less of a headache

after that, go buy your own, or do without.

i've spent 30+ years buying tools to do my job nothing is free.

Hello everyone. Hope all of you have had a good day.

Thank you all for reading and giving suggestions. Admittedly I think I helped create the problem by not being too soft for fear of having high tensions in the workplace. Have realised that I defo should look after tools first and then make friends later.

I wont go down the line of charging them. Nor lending willy billy. Will first scope them out and then keep on a very tight leash. If someone borrows more than three times, then a gentle nudge toward the snap on van.

Thank you for taking your time out to help. Appreciate it a lot.
