I browse Garage Journal at work. And I don't think anyone cares, because to them, it's just a bunch of words with some photos of cars, garages, and tools.

But then I'm scrolling through a post, and all of a sudden someone has a racy picture of some chick as their avatar. I'm always afraid of having that on my screen right when HR walks behind me.

Can we have some sort of policy about not having R Rated pics in avatars?

Might want to also start a "Clean-Up" at your workplace to remove all TV's, magazines, etc. that could possibly be used to see any cleavage.

Send in written modification to your employer's Terms of Use of Electronic Devices that you "promise" to close your eyes while surfing internet at your workplace and see any kind of cleavage or pics of women. See what HR says then !!!

Well, you ARE supposed to be working. I havent seen any avatars that seem offensive. Look at some **** everyday,and make sure they see it to "de-sensitize" them! LOL!

OK... as an ol' network guy for a fortune 500 company I used to run programs that would ID "inappropriate" picts on employee computers. It's a amazing what a mathematical algorithm can do. When something was found, the employee's managers, security and HR were all notified and the ton of bricks released on the offender.

So, yes, I can see this request as a valid one.... as much as we all want to joke, poke fun, or otherwise ridicule a simple request... these things could cost a guy his job. That's not fun... but then, I guess it's not your problem, your kid, your wife, your employer's HR ain't looking over your shoulder. But just remember, the NSA is! Enjoy your night.

Be careful what you ask for...

Less and fewer are similar word that have subtle differences in meaning.

Less refers to lower quantities of "mass" nouns. Things that can't be counted. One wants less clutter on one's desk or one may look for less aggravation at work.

Fewer refers to "count" nouns. Things that can be counted. One wants fewer telephone interruptions or fewer weeds in the yard.

I don't think less boobies is any solution at all! The worst of both worlds. (smile)

So to make sure I have it straight, let me do the office thing and repeat what you just said:

You want folks to censor themselves on an Internet forum because where you work, some of the avatars would be inappropriate and, rather than take some small measure of personal responsibility and actually do your job, you want everyone here to bear the responsibility so you can not do your job, but in relative safety? Do I have that right?

Yeah... wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

To ask some of the members here to change thier avatars is unreasonable. I think most of us can agree the mods here keep things clean..let the mods decide. You are talking about work..The fact that you want to hide screwing around on the net at work, means you shouldnt be doing it. Like most auto techs, I use the net daily, but for work purposes only. Research is one thing, but screwing around on the net at work isnt gettin the job done.

Its not my problem because I dont have time to screw around on my pc at work looking at things I shouldnt, You have it backwards. I dont mean to insult you, or argue, but I cant believe the argument is being made to "tone it down" so "I dont get in trouble at work"

You should be working at work, not browsing a website for fun. If you are on break, HR has no say in what you do. But, you should still not be using a work computer for anything you think could get you in trouble. If you can't get by 8-5 without getting on GJ, I understand...but you should have some self restraint.

With ****** harassment claims filed for the smallest of things, it's often a zero tolerance policy. And to those that say you should be working, we all take breaks from time to time. It's nice to hop on GJ to check on my subscribed threads and forums.

And yes, regardless of if you are on break or not, anything you do on the company network is still very much a part of your employers business.

If someone is allowed a certain amount of internet usage at your co., and they were looking at women in bikinis, that's not ****** harrassment. But hell who knows what they've twisted that into meaning these days. I thought it meant making unwanted advances towards co-workers or underlings and offering perks for ****** favors or threatening to fire someone if they didn't give into ****** requests.

Guys, better hide your tool truck girlie calenders, or HR might write you up for harrassing the ladies at work who are offended at looking at fit women posing.

Take breaks? Sure, nobody works non-stop. And yes, it is nice to scope out the subscribed threads on GJ during the day, maybe even during said breaks at work. But on company hardware, connected to the web via the company's network? Not so much.

There is no free lunch. You take the risk or you play on your own time and your own connection. To re-iterate what I said before, if the OP doesn't want to get caught with his pants down, the onus is on him and nobody else. This whole notion of "do your part so a complete stranger doesn't get busted" is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.
