I need help trying to decide how to paint my anniversary present. This past Saturday my wife and I had been married 11 years. She found me a late 40's hotpoint refrigerator for the garage. It needs paint but works perfectly. She knows that I have always wanted one.We discovered it at an estate sale and she was determined that it would go home with us.I think she likes the garage as much as I do.She bought me a Harley gas pump globe light on our honeymoon and has been finding me things for the garage ever since. Not only does she accept my garage addiction, she encourages it....I have to say I have a very wonderful wife. Please give me ideas. The walls are bright blue. Thanks for your help.:)

I would try just cleaning it up and see how good you can get it with the original paint. If you do paint it, use good high quality paint like automotive, not rattle can. The good paint will not only look much better it will hold up forever inside the garage.

The turquoise looks killer good. Like it's "era-correct" though I suspect there were never fridges in those colors. That old kitchen enamel mint green they always had in the 50's would look good on it too. If I ever find one of those? Turquoise. Well done!

Here's mine. A Dorm fridge that I got at a garage sale for $20. I took it home and threw some One Shot at it to wake it up.

I modified my garage refrigerator to look like a tool box!

- I cut some gussets and placed them on the corners for the castors.
- Covered the ice maker bay and filled it with expanding foam.
- Painted it red, masked it for the grey "drawers."
- Cut some stick on car molding for drawer pulls.
- Stuck on some craftsman stickers.
- Stuck on some small round hobby mirrors for "key locks."
- Used some drafting line tape to separate the top, middle, bottom chests.
- Attached some chest handles and a push handle there you have it.

What do you think? I've several guys come in here and were surprised it to learn it is a refrigerator.

Awesome job on the tool box deal. Have you screwed up and reached for any tools yet?

No, but I sometimes fantasize about someone stealing my toolbox only to find out later they have nothing but a bunch of spoiled frozen pizzas and melted ice-cream. LOL! I guess the cases of beer would be a prize though.

fyi, turquoise was a factory appliance color in the 60's, rented a house with fridge, cooktop, wall oven, sink, and dishwasher all that color, btw with pink sparkle countertops
didn't bother me we were only there for a year

I love the tool box fridge. Here's mine, I have posted it before in another thread. It's made of MDF, composite trim and aluminum HVAC tape brushed with scotchbrite for the drawer pulls.

I would show mine, and the way I did it up, but I would probably have a handful of people tell me how it's under engineered, done in poor quality, and isn't right
so I'll pass

Here's mine. Nothing special (that red toolbox fridge is super cool).

I did add a little something to mine to make it a little different, though. :)

I use Rustoleum Professional Red, I think only one pint (maybe two) and
Rustoleum Professional Bronze, one pint.
I rolled those on with the finest foam nap roller.
On the plastic lower vent and the door seal, I use Rustoleum Multi-surface Red spray-paint. Not quite a match, but I never notice it.

Anyone know someone or a shop around DC that can do a paint job on my old fridge? Converting to a kegerator so I need a nice paint job to compliment. Thanks
