Get a cup of hot water and stick the boot in it for a few minutes until it softens up, then work on to the impact from the nose end. Be careful not to rip the thin rubber strip that goes under the direction buttons.

So there is supposed to be a strip under the buttons?
The backend of of the boot is round (above the buttons), but the back of the gun is flat (above the buttons).
That's what I was wondering about....
The buttons are slightly hidden under the boot.

The boots for the 2115 have a thin strap that fit under the buttons and toward the nose of the impact. Off hand, if you don't have that little strip, I think you got a boot for the older 2112 3/8 impact.
This is the one I got:

That looks like the right boot. The older ones had a clear nose that yellowed with age. The hot water cup boot soaking is the best way I've found to prep any boot to go on an impact wrench.

See how your backend is flat? Matches the gun.
Maybe I should just lop it off.... (the piece that covers the buttons)
