We got the trusses up today, but I had to eat and run off to work before I got any pics. I'll snap a few tomorrow after I get the truss tails trimmed and the hurricane ties on. Monday I can probably finish up the overhangs and the last row of OSB on the walls. My cousin is coming over Tuesday to help, and I hope to have it decked by July 4th. I'm REALLY not looking forward to lifting 50 sheets of 1/2" OSB up 11 feet by hand, but I guess there could be worse jobs.

Damn, what a rollercoaster of a day!
Got home from work and got a few hours sleep. My brother Dan and cousin Chad showed up and we worked on the roof from noon til after 6:00. Got ~80% of the roof decked. Grab the family around 8:30 and head in to town for the first meal of the day and my mom calls saying Chad had been in a car wreck and he'd been airlifted to the hospital. Someone ran a stop sign onto a main road/highway and broadsided him spinning him into oncoming traffic. Broken collar bone, broken leg, spleen and liver damage, and the guy doesn't have insurance
Looks like I'm going to spend July 4th just being thankful my cousin is still alive.

Damn. Sorry for the accident. I hope he gets well soon! Which guy doesn't have insurance?... the other driver or Chad?

It was my cousin that doesn't have medical insurance. He's a good guy, just unlucky (some self inflicted, most not).

I guess on a side note, I finished the front overhang today, and got shingles delivered. I still have to spend tomorrow getting the front hip roof done, and getting drip edge down. Hopefully I'll be able to shingle the whole thing Sunday. I need to get this thing dried in so I can move on to 1,000,000 other things I only have 90% done. Plus it's already rained on this OSB twice. I gotta get the shingles/house wrap on it soon!

Well, we started at 7:00 AM, and stopped at 1:30 due to heat. It's currently 94 degrees in the shade. Time for a dip in the pool, and hit it again this evening, but here's where we're at. They might not show well from this pic, but they're Owens Corning Harbor Blue shingles.
Can't quit yet, it's supposed to be isolated thunderstorms tomorrow.

I've somehow missed this thread til today. Your garage build is great. Thanks for all the pics. Like to watch how all these things progress. Get some good ideas for the day when I get to do my own.

Sorry to hear about your cousin. m-20 can be pretty nasty as everyone out there goes 70+ at times....
Lost a couple friends on that road from people coming from the Indian lands. I used to work at Dow for 5 years. Know that area well.
The garage built looks great.
I have been trying to figure out what size to build for a while now, and I want to put a lift in it... but i think my township won't let me build anything bigger than 30x32.
It looks like it will give me enough room for what I want.

Well, I got the shingles finished today. Still gotta trim off the extra though. Got it done just in time, as we got one hell of a downpour here shortly after. I left my plastic wheel barrel under one of the eaves, and it filled it 3/4 full in ~30 minuites! It relocated a lot of my fill for me too...

Also, I just got news about my cousin. He was back to his joking self yesterday after they took him off the pain meds. Today they moved him off the critical list, and he's expected to recover. He was told recovery time will be 12-18 months before he's back to full health though.

Prayers going out to your cousin. A friend of mine was hit by a drunk driver at 10 o'clock Sunday morning a year ago. Months in the hospital and still in physical therapy. Makes you realize how quickly your life can change. The support of friends and family does a lot, though.

Here's a quick update. I got lazy thru the weekend, but I think I deserved it.
Worked on siding for about 5 1/2 hours today with my neighbor and his son helping.
Note to self for the future:

Progress is getting slow lately, thanks mainly to really hot days, and me working 12s what seems like every night. But it's worth an update anyway. I got the steel garage door trim in, and finished the siding on the front wall. Picked up the brick for the bottom 40", just need a masonary saw, a helper and a full day to get it done.
Going to work on soffit when I get home and try to get that finished up all the way around. Gotta keep moving, I'm back to school in about 3 weeks and then things come to a screeching halt.
My brother is doing the concrete work Saturday (been doing it for 8 years), so I'm pretty excited about that. Figuring about 13.5-14 yds of concrete and 3 workers, there goes another two grand.
Anyway, I'll get some fresh pics up this evening.

Well, I got the siding finished on the front as far as I can go not having the service door installed yet, and the soffit up on a couple of sides, but without the facia in place, it doesn't look much different than my last pics. I need to get a neighbor or someone to help me place the facia, then I'll get some new pics up. I promise I'll take a bunch on Saturday when my bro and his (paid) crew do the work. I'll be busy supervising, the camera, and the beer cooler

My brother and his crew showed up at 8:30 this morning and the cement was there by 8:45. Sorry about the lighting in some of the pics. At ~9:00AM, the sun was shining almost 30' into the front of the garage and the camera just didn't seem to want to adjust quite right for it.
Vapor barrier and wire down before the pour:
My bump protection for the wall with the furnace/WH/natural gas/water/electrical lines in it. Still gotta trim the center post, I hit a rock or leftover cement from the footing pour or something:

We brought out my cousin Chad to harrass my bro
He was actually working very good without coaxing!

After a few hours, I took a break from picture taking and went back to working on soffit and facia. I wound up being one sheet of vented soffit short of finishing the north wall, so I did about half of the front wall. Didn't get any pics at the very end of the day, as I had to head out to my Aunts retirement party. I took next week off, so I should be able to completely finish the exterior very soon. Yeah, I think he was dying to get out of the house. It was good to have him over. He does concrete too, and knew both the cement truck drivers. We all BS'd a lot while the others were working.
Yep, my brother came over yesterday and cut all the control joints into the concrete. We've been watering it every couple of hours. It sure feels good knowing its there, looks damn nice too. But now I'm pretty much out of overtime money. Time to start using the in-store credit cards

Great thread. I wish I had the know-how to tackle an entire build like this on my own.
Do you have a lift picked out to fit the 12x12 space? The barn I am building has a bay that is 12' wide by about 19' deep, with 12' ceiling. I had planned to put a lift in there, but I see that many of the quality lifts are 11 or 12' wide. It doesn't seem good to me to have zero or less than a foot of clearance between the posts and the wall. What do you think?
