So after a successful previous post on best approach, I now have the materials and the barn insulation begins!!

First, Menards deliver the materials -







Started with treated 2*4's around the base and filled external siding with expanding foam to keep the critters out!!



Then lower level of 1 1/2" foam panels between girts.





Then it got too cold to continue which, i guess is why I''m doing this!!

Nice !!! did you get the sale price at Menards or 11% rebate ?
I have done this in sections as time/$/space allows.
How many layers/R value are you doing.
I have read an article in finehomebuilding of a house that was super insulated, that they tore into to see what worked & what didn't. One comment was to do sheet insulation in overlapping layers as opposed to just one thicker layer.

Yep, I did get the 11%, boy did I need that!! The foam is around R7 and I'm using another layer of R13 on the walls and R19 in the ceiling. Sides and ceiling will be covered in Dura-panel liners.
Gonna take a while....

Should be nice , don't forget to put in blocking behind panels for anything you would want to mount to wall ( you probably knew ).

Traverse is a nice area, I lived in Gaylord 20 years ago. It had a lot of gas & oil back then.
Roommates dad would check compressors on pipeline.

That's why we moved to Traverse City, I'm in the pipeline inspection business and TC has a company new to the business and getting in at the beginning is very satisfying as I've been in the business 27 yrs.
Having said that we moved from Houston, 300 days of sunshine, no need for insulated barns there!!
But as I'm originally from England I'm used to 4 seasons just not quite so severe winters.

This is the way I did my walls as well. I used the pink foam boards though. Picked up a bunch of it at a materials auction. Using some on my basement walls as well.
I assume you will also be using 2x4's for bookshelving for the insulation. The bookshelving also gives you something to mount the steel liner to as well and anything you may want to mount to the wall after. You may think about if you didn't....caulk where the bottom board hits the floor. That air can migrate under the steel panel and out into your shop. Although, you could also caulk the steel liner to the floor. Unless you are using a trim piece down there. The steel liner goes up quick except around the windows which are slower.

Sounds like my plans are the same. I have filled the lower cavities of the siding with expanding foam before I put the foam panels in place so should be OK there. I'm not using any edge trim pieces, saved a few dollars, just looking for function.
It's slow going but I think it is going to be effective when the liners are in place.

I did mix it up a bit with my walls. Used the liner over in the machine shop/welding area. Used 3/4" plywood and painted in others where I wanted to hang more stuff and there wasn't welding nearby. I think I will do liner above to the ceiling. I did OSB for the ceiling and regretted it. The steel panels go up quicker and look nicer and no paint needed. Live and learn.

Freaky. That's what I have. I think I bought the 45000 btu, in a U shape. Heat is nice. Not enough for fast recovery in my 40x40x16 though. I do have a hanging Reznor as backup that I picked up used and cheap. Warming the air is fast. So I use that for quick pickups for comfort. The tube I just use to keep stable temp. I do set mine back to 45 though and kick it up when I am out there. 5 degrees takes quite a while.

Let the fun begin!! - UPDATE

OK, even though the weather is a balmy 16F I managed to make some progress over the last 2 weeks. Firstly, I got the foam finished down one wall and studs in place for the fiberglass -



Then finished the fiberglass and installed the first three liner panels -



Hard work but very rewarding, just another 2 1/2 walls and the ceiling to do, can't wait!!
