Ok, one coat of polyurea, to prime or not to prime? That is the Question.
Armorpoxy says: "Ideal for a cost effective ONE or two coat clear solution." Many others: "NOT USING PRIMER!!? THAT'S CRAZIER THAN NOT PRIMING YOUR WIFE BEFORE TELLING HER HOW MUCH YOU SPENT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. ARE YOU NUTS? I guess to be fair, Garage Flooring LLC is now posting a one coat process: "NEW Option: Single Coat High Gloss Clear Only." So, does this stuff stick to properly prepared concrete? Are there differences in formulations that perform on bare concrete better than others? Is there any reason two coats would stick better on bare concrete than one? Let's hear your thoughts.

We have over 10,000 installations of a single coat of our SPGX with outstanding results. Just clean and etch the floor. If well prepped you should have no problems.

That is the kind of data one likes to see. Very impressive. Thank you for the response.

First and foremost I will say that Legacy and Armorpoxy are great companies and I would not hesitate to do a floor with either. I am also not going to engage in a debate. I don't think vendors engaging in a debate is healthy to this forum.

What I will speak to is our kit. Our kit has been installed for years without a primer. Testing clearly shows that our70% solids polyurea over a CSP1 to CSP 2 surface will have as good if not better bonding than an inexpensive epoxy primer.

It would be much more profitable for us to include less polyurea and include an epoxy primer. After internal testing, speaking with the scientists that formulate the product for us and the person who has been our liaison for years, the bottom line is this. For our system, if your floor is so bad that you need an extra coat, buy an extra coat of poly on so you have poly throughout. Your system is as strong as the weakest link.

Our system includes (kits) include material based on 200SF per gallon which provides a significant Mil thickness and performance advantage over going at 250-300.

Bottom line is this. Whoever you buy a system from, follow their system so if their is a problem you are covered. We do millions of dollars a year in product (Poly is a huge part of that number) and have zero doubt about the way our system is designed.

Earlier this summer I installed one coat of polyurea from Garage Flooring LLC on my existing slab in good condition. A good detergent scrubbing, light acid etch and no primer. Quick, easy and coverage was as advertised. Looks absolutely great. Couldn't be happier. Stay away from the cheap box stores product. Made that mistake in my last garage.

My shop was fresh concrete, one coat polyurea - it's held up great.. No issues. No primer. I'll be doing it again as my garage gets finished out.
