You got yourself one cool piece, but proper restoration would be a long process judging by the pictures!

Thanks, Shelbylex. I guess that's a leads to a good question: is my box a K-300 or a KR-300?

BTW, I'm more likely to move this along as is to an interested party, rather than tackle a restoration myself. If anyone int he Boston area wants a challenge, PM me.

Mine is from 48 or so, looks similar.
Wow, OTG, those are gorgeous!

From my brief catalog review, the 1950 KR-300 still had the 2-post lamp, but went to red drawer handles. Mine has the two holes on top and chrome handles, so I conclude that it is a K-300 from '48 or earlier.

Thanks for the assist, folks!

Can anyone help with pinpointing the likely age of this KR-300 Rollachest? I suspect pre-WWII. There is no model number or date on the bottom-left of the front face. The workbench light is missing. The external power plug on the back bottom is 2-prong, but the outlet on the work bench top is 3-prong.20230419_160133.jpg

I would guess late 20s early 30s. Earliest ones had pinch stops for the rotating grip.

A question for the crowd of experts:
I picked up these two 387 Diagonals and they have me stumped. They were generally offered in the catalogs at the same time but the 387 was touted as "High Leverage" while the C had a partly polished head and handles.
The 387 has the older upright font while the 387C has the newer italicized font, yet the "older" 387 has an unmistakable USA 7 (1967) stamped on the inside handle while the italicized C has an equally unmistakable 6 (1966). I might be persuaded to believe they found some old stock in a warehouse somewhere, but in the catalogs from the early 50s through 1970, the 387 (and not the 387C) is described as sporting the Vacuum Grip design on the handles. This one has smooth handles. Thoughts?

Thanks!

"Organizing" the basement and ran across this old Set No. 707 ( Ford Model T?)box. I vaguely remember acquiring it with the funky mix you can see in the pics. I guess the 6 SO sockets were original to the box and other than that it originally may only have had a sliding T, a speeder, and a long extension. BTW, the ratchet adapters visible are Blackhawk and Walden.

I think those boxes came with different tools depending on your car
Hi. Yeah, i saw something about that but no clue if they had different set numbers or what. I saw one with a diagram for a Ford on the inside lid and what sizes are used used where. I also saw that 23 Snap on "what car do you drive book" with all the cars and their different kits but I didn't see any boxes for the car specific kits, just a leatherette bag

I have experimented putting different tools in them. Seems like a nice box for keeping some emergency tools in your trunk.20230504_215950.jpg

OK, so do you have, or have you seen different set #'s or at least the diagram for other cars with their different tool requirements?
I have only seen maybe three diagrams, all Fords. But I think there is a brochure that shows that you can get different ones.

That ad looks like someone's teenage kid got drafted for the artwork. Yeah, I mentioned in post 3822 that I checked out the 1923 brochure available in the catalog section on the collecting snap-on site entitled "what car do you drive book". It lists a bunch of different cars and their sets but I didn't see any set #'s. Most of them look like they would fit in the same box so it would be easy to slap on a decal with the matching set no. diagram inside and fill it with the correct tools.

Has anyone seen a 716-R ratchet with an offset and extended handle like this? Also, what is the earliest known example of a 71X-R ?

That box obviously is configured differently inside....what about the outside dimensions. Is the same as your 707?
The 707 is about 1/2" shorter on length, and maybe 1" shorter on width. depth about the same.

post a pic of the logo and model number, also post a picture of the spot where the end of the ratchet is joined on to the bar. and other model numbers on the bar.

What is that a fan wrench?
Hi. So I bought these 2 chairs about 2 blocks from my House in Detroit. The contract # seems to be from Ford's WW2 related 1940 Pratt & Whitney Aircraft engine one. The ratchet, which I had acquired earlier seems to have a lot of the same info...The Pratt & Whitney PW , the 16528 #, the Air Corps USAC mark, also there's the HFTS Henry Ford Trade School (maybe) mark which was located on the same Dearborn Rouge plant where the PWA engines were made and MAY have been where the ratchet was modified. That's the theory I'm floating anyway.....I'm pretty sure these 71X-R ratchets have been getting pumped out for a long time so I'm trying to confirm that they existed when this contract was being filled.

It looks factory. But the model number on this type of ratchet wrench is like R-716. not 716-R like yours. they made these starting in the 30s and thru at least into the 50s. maybe 60s. I collect BP and SO aircraft tools, have not seen that one. Nice set of tools.

It’s R-716-R you can just barely see the initial R around the bend.
