I picked up this pouch with four cad-plated hex keys in it. From the stains, it seems they had been in it a long time. Only the largest is marked. It has date code for 1954. The pouch has no visible markings; is it Snap-on, and is it really for hex keys? It is not clear to me how more hex keys would fit into the middle slots without interfering with the ones on the sides

Lugz, I also found a BP chisel (plus a SO punch). The 1/4” chisel is marked SVP-408, no date code. The 5/32 SO punch is PPC 205, date code 1964.

I personally consider 50 to 100 vintage, 100 + antique , but some have a more liberal interpretation

Vintage.
When you consider that it means the year grapes were pressed for wine, applying the term to other commodities is inherently subjective. I would suggest it is an age-dependent variable, perhaps best approximated by taking the year you were born and adding 10 to 12 years. Anything after that is contemporary.

I have older pullers than this, but I like this one a lot. Just looks neat. CJ86 Pinion Gear Puller from about 48.

here's my oldest. A 3/4" drive 1 7/8 socket with the "loxocket" push button and license stamping but without the stamping on the drive end. The date stamp is very faint but looks like the 7 in the AA photo. I guess that makes it early 1937. The other is a 1/2" drive ratchet adapter with an "E" stamp.

How old do you think these wrenches are?

The 37 and some 38 loxocket have a squared off cut out ramp for the lock button to slide into the socket. Later ones have a less pronounced rounded one. Makes them easy to spot in a.bucket of flee market tools

I’ve gathered some 1/4” tools to use as trade material in an effort to find a wartime TM-2 like the one Shelbylex posted above in order to complete my set. Here are the items available for trade followed by an example of the extension I’m looking for.

The 1/4 wartime stuff is tough to come by. I have one complete set but no extra tm2. If I find one you will be the first to know!

Thanks, OTG! Here are some 9/32” drive extra oddballs that I’m not sure why I have.

I recently picked up some Snap On 5/8" drive impact sockets and this one I am trying to date. The marking does not seem to correspond with the date code chart. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like a '27 socket to me, and I doubt that it was impact rated. I have a '28 set and they are for normal use at that time.

I think...

Snap mom will know more than I.

1927, not impact sockets that's just how they looked back then

Today’s flea market finds. Got a kick out of the adjustable, because it says Blue-Point on one side and Snap-on on the other. If you list something on eBay using both names, Snap-on claims intellectual property violation and eBay pulls the listing.
The Blue-Point hammers should clean up well. The Snap-on chisel may or may not. The BPS tappet is pretty rusty.

I’m not sure, but I think this is a F-1820 Hammerhead wrench that lost its (9/16) head, and with it, its model number and date code if it had one.

That is a Diamond adjustable private labeled for SO. Not sure why, but I think they are all dual-marked. I have two 4-inchers.

They also had single socket end ones with handles, which sometimes came off

OTG: That makes more sense. There’s a dimple where something was attached, maybe with a rivet.

A WW2 tool collecting colleague in the U.K. sent me this picture and is wondering what set might have come in this box. I checked the ‘41, ‘42 and ‘45 catalog on collecting Snap-on and didn’t see anything that matched. Here is his query.
“I forgot I had this Snap-On socket box which is 18 3/4'' X 5 1/4'' X 1 1/2'' green enamel paint, marked Snap-On the lid, and Made in U.S.A. on the back edge. I bought it at a steam engine rally around twenty years ago only because it was green and USA made, and it's a handy size to keep my tap & die tools in. Looks like another set to collect - any ideas what set it would be ?”
Can anyone help him out?
-Don

Those popped up around 1940. If it is 18 or so inches long it's 1/2 drive. Came with your choice of I think 11, 15 or 18 inch hinge handle, 6 or 12 point sockets

Bought the bigger brother set to go with that other one. This one has the Blue Point decal on the box and on the instruction sheet inside the lid. No labeling on the tools. Not sure of the year, unless the E1056 on the inside label is from 1956? Never know. Nice set, dirty, but almost no wear on it.
