Those Thorsen V Grooves are some sharp looking wrenches. The chrome on those Proto 500s looks really nice. I think I have a couple of P&C 500 series wrenches around here somewhere. Probably the exact same wrench.

I recently completed this set of NAPA USA satin finish combos. I needed a nice set of metric wrenches to work on the Jeep and I found most of these in one shot at the flea. Had to fill in a few gaps.
The Metric are 7mm up to 21MM and the SAE is 1/4" up to 1".

I stepped into a mess of metric Thorsen combos today, along with Barcalo, Bonney, Mac, and Duro Chrome.

Some of those look very familiar to me for some reason.
I picked this up at the Tahoe flea because I’ve never seen one before.

Making some decent progress on this set of Bonney 11xx series combo wrenches. I've got #1159 through 1167A.

I believe that these are Lectrolite (they made many Dunlap wrenches). The little letters usually mean Lectrolite especially the LC.
-Don
Indeed, Lectrolite Corp. Tru-Fit design, 1950s to early 1960s. And yes, they are the exact same wrench as the period Dunlap. These unbranded ones would have been sold through a variety of retailers with house-branding on the packaging or just generic no-name. Finding them in metric is very unusual. They're suckage to me (jealous) no matter what was paid for them.

Random drive-by post of some combos I have in a miscellaneous combo wrench drawer.

Bonney 1174, 1 5/16"
Herbrand 1240, 1 1/4"
Herbrand 1232, 1"
Herbrand 1228, 7/8"
Herbrand 1232-N, 1"
Cornwell CW18, 7/8"
Cornwell ??, 11/16"
Blue Point OEX 28, 7/8"
Blue Point OEX 26, 13/16"
Dayton 4X149, 3/4"
Williams ??, 11/16" (I suspect to be a very early Williams combo)
International 999436R1, 7/16" (WTF with the long model number!)
Unknown "Chrome Vanadium Steel" 15/16". This one came from Goodwill. I have no reason to buy it except I wanted to save it from certain abuse by a do-it-yourself-er looking for cheap tools.

I don't collect combination wrenches, but I couldn't resist this little guy at my flea market today. No markings of any kind. The openings are 1/4" x 3/16". It was in a wood toolbox with a mess of antique wrenches (e.g., buggy, machinery, connecting rod, etc), and I suspect it is also antique. It's very unusual for a few reasons. Those reinforced areas around the open and box openings, for one, which remind me of toolpost wrenches, although those are usually open and square ends and much larger. Also, the offset. I do suspect that it was used for a particular adjustment on a particular machine. Pic 3 is a couple of the other odd jobbies I found it with.

I spotted this today in my travels. “Silo wrench”...it was in PA farm country, so I’m going to grant the person who labelled it knew what they were doing. Maybe sheds some light on some of the odder wrenches we’ve seen.

The old farm wrenches are odd in my opinion. We can buy then by the pail full up here and really aren't worth squat due to volume of them.

Those Artisan combos are pretty cool. I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild.
I'll show off my babies. They dont see much use. I need to take a pic of my metric set with the original tool roll
Bonney made Loc-Rite. It doesn't get much better than the chrome they put on those babies! And metric to boot. :bounce:

I don’t find many MAC tools but I found this combo yesterday. It has kind of an early look to me and isn’t marked Sabina. Can anyone provide more information about it?994E6DE1-0239-499B-9666-EF75CA3134E1.jpg

I picked up this Indestro Super no. 779 combo wrench 15/16" a while back. It has a few spots of rust but has never been used. Guessing late production? Grip area matte chrome, open end and box end polished.

Here is a Craftsman V USA stainless steel 13/16" combo. I know these sets came in velvet lined cases and aren't common, and weren't cheap new. Well someone used the snot out of this wrench lol. I bought it years ago in a lot of tools and there were no others.

I pulled out my Cornwell stuff to snap a photo of the angle wrenches for bonneyman's new thread, linked here, and I forgot I had these. I picked them up one or two at a time. I need quite a few more than what I have now to make a complete set, but I'm not in a hurry. It's a shame that CW18 (7/8") is stamped differently than the others, but Cornwell is not exactly known for consistency (even in the same production year, within the same sets!), so that's a quibble. I don't collect combination wrenches, per se, (all tolled, these included, plus a few orphans from other makers, I may have a dozen or so), so I often just ignore them out of indifference. An old blind spot. But I'll see if I can add to it this year.

No posts since April! :wtf:

I picked up this extra long combo at the flea market this morning. The 12-point box end has a wedge head. Anybody have any SWAG's on the "M.T. & S." branding? (It's like a cryptogram challenge and I am not doing very well...)

I found this 3/8" OEX-120 with a 1942 date code today. A little pitting but in very good shape for its age in this part of the world.

Lugz,
Whoever manufactured it, I think it is a Chrysler torque-ing wrench. Is it about 17” long?

Yes. See pic 1. Post your reference, please. I haven't had any luck identifying it.

Sorry for the quality of the screenshot - the scan I have of the 1950 Bonney C3 catalog is poor. It’s the only catalog I know that has the wrench I’m thinking of. Page 71, if you have it. I have both sizes, both stamped “not guaranteed”, but at a flea a while back I saw another Bonney example that did NOT say “not guaranteed”, so I guess it worked out.
Presumably, in the Bonney “half-twist” design, the wrench begins to flex at the right torque, so the experienced (and sensitive) mechanic feels when it’s right.
I think the obscurity and rarity of this tool may indicate that there is a better way of torque-ing transmission coupling bolts. Maybe this tool could not compete with torque wrenches. The time frame seems right.

Here's some recent finds.

Qty. 2, Vanadium Tool Co. C-16 combos, 1" both NOS

Blue Point OEX220 11/16" seems like a stubby

Mystery wrench set. Came in a KD Tools "First Edition" wrench roll, 3/8"-3/4" combos plus a set of KD marked ignition wrenches. Combos are full polish, have V-gullets, and are only marked with the size and made in USA on one side, other side blank. Did KD ever make their own wrenches, or were these made by someone else? I found it weird they aren't marked, they seem quality.

Danaher (Easco)? But they do have a bit of the Kelsey-Hayes/Triangle look, don’t they?
