Yeah - go to the floor with yanking bolts, guys. Someone is going to be garageless trying to pull a car in using a block wall.

Great idea Byrdman and thanks for the tips on it guys. I'll be adding that to the dream garage plans. Maybe an eyelet recessed under a steel plate in the driveway too for going the opposite direction.

I had a buddy that bored many holes in a known pattern (every 24"X24") in his floor then inserted large diameter threaded plugs and grouted them in. They were positioned very accurately so he could pre-build items and then use them almost anywhere in his gargage. He uses the plugs for many things by bolting fixtures in place or eyebolts for pulling, for example. He plugs the top when not in use.

I think this is an awesome idea for a working garage. Especially if you build frames and such - you always have a location to pull or hold something into place for fabrication.

Here's a unique feature I just installed today: 9/16" eyelets in the wall! They are on the back wall opposite the garage doors. I got tired of getting help to push cars in and out of my garage(no motors in them yet), so I drilled a hole through the cinder block wall and ran a threaded eye-bolt through the hole and reinforced it with a steel plate and big washers on the back side. Now I just attach a come-along to the eyelet and pull that sucker in the easy way. One day I'll get a little winch and have it made!

Pulling a car inside that doesn't run is all too familiar to me. :willy_nil I've taken a short piece of chain & wrapped it around the base of the verticle 6"x6" posts in my garage. That's an advantage to having a pole building. I then hook the cable puller to it & drag the car in. The poles are all between 4-1/2 to 6 feet below the slab, so the walls aren't going anywhere. If a dead car can snap a pole as I pull, there's more serious problems going on.

Not necessarily unique, but new to me:

WALL MOUNTED HOIST:

Sometime paint booth/Sometime project room. I have doors that mount to seal off the room.

Just for the record-the outside

Dink,

It is not my first choice either. The previous owner of the house put that hoist in. It is mounted through three 4x4 posts in the wall. While it is sturdy, I am not crazy about using it for really heavy loads either.

I know the previous owner used it extensively, but since I did not build it.....

I think it is deceiving because you don't see the boards it is mounted to, just the bolts going into drywall. I imagine it can hold an engine easily.

Being single the above mentioned are free to look. LOL. I bought it at a plumbing supply store. Expensive but I wanted it. I saw one made from a cut 5 gal bucket somewhere on here. That looked cool. How about a cut small oil drum. My bathroom sink may be made from a 55 gallon drum. Saw one here that looked really cool.

Cool stuff!

I think what makes mine special to me is the two tone paint job. I painted the lower section gray. Not only does it look good, but it really hides the nasty black finger prints you always get.

Ok... just for once I want to see a normal automobile in one of these garages... I can't wait to do my garage and take a picture with my minivan in the center of it. :)

Hello all. Newbie Ron here. This is a great site and I am going to start reading all the old posts and get caught up.

I have racing stripes also to make my garage personal and unique. I am going to attempt to post a picture of it just prior to completion. If anyone is bored and has the time visit my Webshots pages, sort by REGULAR and go to page two and look for albums marked NEW GARAGE. I have documented the good and bad of the garage building progress from a bare lawn to the finished project.

How about a couple of close up pics of the work bench. I am designing one now and plan on using 2x6 pressure treated boards from my friend's deck....which we took down a couple of years ago....for the top.

A couple of the things that I think make mine unique are my 16' x 16' "retirement office" in the front corner (where I spend most of my time), and the "automobilia corner" just outside the office. The restored Sunoco 260 pump was a housewarming present from my wife, but she forgot the 8,000-gallon underground tank full of 260 to go with it.
