i bet your Dad might have a couple extensions whipped up for you in no time and you can show us all what they look like and maybe a YouTube video of them in action. sweet!!

Unfortunately I'm not getting ones he has restored. Fortunately though, I'm getting a 1/2HP Industrial with rear exhaust. The second one was one he picked up for me before he started his list. Once I get them and have my dad check them out, I will definitely put a video up on YouTube and see about having him make some for fellow block heads.

Here's some of the back story.

The guy is one of those guys that like to use good tools. Back in the 80's he bought a lot of tools, welders of every sort, Snap-on hand tools etc. You know the type, I mean, we have enough of those kind of guys right here.

But he had a couple of smaller grinders, and used those. Just never got this one out of the box.

Now he's moving, after living all his life in this one place, and needs to get rid of what he doesn't use.

Which size do you have and on what size (HP) grinder? I'm seriously considering converting my 1980's 1/2hp to one of those. which means, of course, that I would have to repaint it.

I have the 2 x 36 with the disk sanding kit. It is mounted on a 1/2hp specimen.

The motor is 1/2 HP and it runs very smoothly. I don't think it's seen a lot of use. I put a new disc on it and that's pretty much it. Somebody is going to love this one.

Another one from the Petri dish. Amazing. Have you ever found a sanding disk attachment for sale? I have looked, but no luck so far.

By the way, moss doesn't haven't a chance of growing on that stump.

It doesn't look impossible to fabricate - at least the housing and "table". Any chance of taking some measurements before that one is sold?

Paul: i second on moving the gas and maybe the other jug from underneath your grinder where hot metal and sparks can fly.

Anybody have that long sander attachment on one of their block grinders to post some pictures?

Haha. That gas tank is empty. It's an older one and it leaked by the cap so I bought one of the vp racing jugs. I keep the full vp racing can on the other side of the garage byy welding station. Haha j/k. I'm only keeping the old blitz can because I may try and find another old cap/spout and see if the leak stops. I'd hate to throw it away because the new cans are all TERRIBLE! The vp racing one is great though.

I recently purchased a couple of old Craftsman 6" x 48" belt sanders on stands that have 10" disc sanders on them as well. Guy sold me two, one complete and one not. They're probably 1950's units and extremely heavy. I'm going to be combining the two of them using parts from each to make the best possible unit. Came with a nice 1HP motor too. So, bottom line, I have no use for a bench grinder with sanding disc on it at this point in time. But, if I had room for it I would love to keep this because it's so nice.

No markings anywhere. I bought the grinder and stand locally from a cool member swampcat. He said the stand came with it when he bought it. I've never seen one like it but it is perfect for the grinder. The holes line up perfectly to mount it. I think it may be factory but am not certain. If it was homemade, whoever made it did a great job. It is very lightweight yet very stable.

in case you are serious you might want to mention what part of the world you live in. or get on the list for another block grinder and search Craigs for one. most guys on this thread don't want to rebuild a block grinder for somebody else, but we are always willing to help if you want to give it a try and see how you do on your first attempt.

What are the symptoms? Is it bound up and making a buzzing noise, or is it completely dead? Also, if you have powder coated pieces, it might be worth more in parts. Post some pictures.

Probably better off take it back apart, post some pics, and we'll walk you through trouble shooting it. Do you have a basic meter? These things aren't rocket science.

Actually the empties are more dangerous than full, from an initial explosive view point: Even the residue can ignite. Its already vapor, and any residue just helps it. Store the empty properly also.

Just to illustrate: I needed to solder some feed lines into an old US Jerry can once. I first cleaned it with alcohol to remove the gas residue, then with hot, near boiling sudsy water many times, until i could not smell ANY gas smell...

That sucker STILL went "WHOOF" not once, but twice!

Don't think empty = safe... not with gasoline...

If the motor (arbor/shaft) spins freely by hand when the power is off, should tell you if the powder coating has bound things up. Tolerances/clearances can change after powder coating.

If it does spin freely, then if the start windings are not activated, an induction motor can just humm.

Caution - Do Not Allow the Motor to Sit and Hmm, it May Damage the Start Windings.

If the start winding is the cause, you may be able to spin it by hand to get it started; actually, you'd have to get it spinning fast ~80% of rated speed.

These things sometimes take time, and the process is a shaky one until you have the grinder in your hands.

Didn't get a response to my emails last night, asking for his Paypal account, to pay for it. A verbal agreement doesn't always stand. I had a nice PEXTO 24" box and finger brake bought for $175, with a verbal commitment from the seller. I was supposed to pick up in 2 days per the sellers schedule. Then he called and said someone offered him more and it was sold. So I like to get the item paid for as soon as possible, And shipping or pickup as soon as can be after that.

So getting more discouraged all day. Finally the wife said call him. It's 5:30, and he should be home. So I did, and he gave me the shipping amount. But he didn't have his Paypal account name. He would send it to me.

So I'm waiting and waiting. Finally, a few minutes ago, I thought to look in my spam folder. There it was! So I paid and sent him a note. Hope he didn't give up and sell it.
