I looked at a "Sears Best" 1HP block on CM stand yesterday. Seller was asking $150. Unrestored, but looks to be in excellent shape. I don't need it, but if it's a bargain price, I'll go back and get it. What say you all?

Can someone tell me how two separate the two halves of the grinder? Some of the insulation has deteriorated on the wires and I can't reach it without separating. Thanks for the help guys!

The stand would fetch at least $100 on the auction site, so you would be paying $50 for a 1hp grinder----yes, it's worth it.

Riley: any pictures of your 1 HP grinder on original stand? you have my vote to go buy it. there is a 1/2 HP commercial block on it's original stand for sale up here if not sold already for $150 that if it was the older style with the metal eye shields and rounded top i'd buy and i don't NEED another grinder.

Pictures? Model number? Older blockhead or a newer model? I would be interested in picking up a 1HP especially if it is an older model in excellent shape and on CM pedestal stand. Let me know if you are not interested. It would be worth a road trip to Oregon to pick one of these up. Thanks.

I brought my camera to his place but the batteries were dead (epic fail on my part). I don't know enough about cman block grinders to tell the difference between old or new. I just knew what it was. I will be meeting with him again in the very near future and will get more details about this, and other items he has - but for now, I'm keeping him a secret as he has some stuff I want before I tell the world about it.

Search this thread, or the Block Grinder 101 thread for the Hillman replacement rubber feet for it (available at Lowes). You'd be surprised at how much vibration the feet can remove, even when the grinder is bolted down.

OBTW - It's also a CrownTop. At 1974 it could be one of the last with that logo.

$20 ? - Yup, that's suckage pricing.

Hello all,

Just finished this rebuild and posted the details over at owwm.org under omwm, but thought you'd like to have a peek and also to contribute to this excellent thread.

It's 397.21125, a Canadian model, identical to the .21135, but no tray or light.

Replaced the bearings, painted the centre band with Rustoleum Metallic Aluminium. Didn't paint housing or guards, but used NuFinish The Once a Year Car Polish, that worked wonders removing the oxidization. Everything else was buffed.

Isaiah, nice job, cleaned up nicely and keeps most of the original patina intact.

bought this for $50 at an auction. I know this has been asked and I tired to do a search but came up empty. Id like to know where to get a wire wheel for it and a new chord. And just curious how long do these usually spin when turned off? mine does for like 50 seconds. Thanks

RB: you can buy wire wheels for these Blocks at a lot of places so i'll let the guys that have bought one recently say where they did. i think you can use just an old power cord off a computer or old printer. even an old or fairly new extension cord or you can buy them new at most any hardware store for less than $15.

my 1/2 HP commercial block runs out about a minute and it was barely used. i probably won't be changing the bearings on it, but some of the guys change the bearings on all their blocks just because these machines are all over 40 years old.

ALL: anybody have plans they want to share for their blocks or their shops for 2016? i personally want to get at least one of my 6 benches clear and clean at all times and would also like to line up at least 3 or more grinders with different wheels on them so i can get more work done.
